Responsible for ensuring high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and organization in accordance with established Public Health IPAC standards and PLGB policy's and procedures. This role combines general housekeeping tasks with laundry operations to ensure that all supported individual bedrooms - linens, common areas, and PLGB facilities are clean, fresh and well-presented. The position has the primary responsibility for sanitation and safety of the whole facility. Requires attention to detail, efficiency and commitment to providing excellent service and comfort to residents, guests and patrons.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cleaning and sanitizing of all PLGB private and public areas, surfaces, rooms and facilities.
2. Cleaning and sanitizing of designated high touch surfaces - as often as required.
3. High and low dusting of all PLGB private and public areas, surfaces, rooms and facilities.
4. Routine replenishing of supplies such as paper towel, toilet paper, hand soap, hand sanitizer, etc.
5. Sweeping, mopping, waxing, striping, and polishing of floors.
6. Vacuuming and/or shampooing of carpets and mats, as required.
7. Operating a variety of floor cleaning/polishing machines.
8. Collection, organization and storage of garbage/recyclable materials.
9. Performing miscellaneous tasks including, but not limited to, cleaning of window blinds/window coverings, shower curtains, pedestal fans, windows, windowsills, walls, glass doors, and polishing finishes.
10. Emptying, cleaning and sanitizing waste receptacles; pick up and disposal of other debris, as required.
Gathering of soiled clothing, towels and linens to be laundered.
Regular use of industrial washing and drying machines according to manufacturer instructions.
Folding of clean and dried clothing, towels and linen items according to established procedures, ironing items if required.
Sorting, inspection, and regular inventory of clean linens, clothing and towels - storing in appropriate storage areas; applying appropriate stain treatments, as required.
15. Organizing and labeling of clean linen and clothing items, as required.
Performing additional deep cleaning tasks, as required.
18. Acting as the back up for the water systems operator, as required.
19. Identifying and reporting any/all safety hazards to the department manager immediately.
20. Identifying and reporting any/all maintenance or pest control issues to maintenance via the appropriate application.
21. Following health and safety guidelines, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals.
22. Understanding and performing duties aligning with organizational mission, values and service principals.
23. Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
One year of experience in Housekeeping/EVS or Laundry in an institutional setting preferred
OSSD or equivalent
Successful completion of IPAC for Non-Clinical Staff
Must have or be willing to obtain and maintain regular renewal of non-violent crisis intervention training
Must have or be willing to obtain and maintain regular renewal of small system drinking water testing certification
Must have or be willing to obtain and maintain regular renewal First Aide and CPR certification
Valid Criminal reference check for vulnerable sector
Have and maintain a legal driver's license and acceptable driving record (as per agency insurance requirements)
Proven work performance, effective communications skills (including written and verbal, interpersonal and organizational skills, and ability to work independently and as part of a team
Must have or be willing to obtain Small system drinking water testing certification

Knowledge of basic arithmetic necessary to calculate portions of cleaning materials.

Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies such as boxes, laundry bins/bags, mop buckets, and garbage's weighing up to 55 pounds.
Ability to walk, kneel, climb, stand, stoop, crouch, and reach when performing an array of related activities.
Ethical use of sick time and LOA's, punctual start and end shift times
Represents agency in a positive manner to families, support network members and the community
Hours of work include scheduled shifts and call-ins, and may include day, weekdays and weekends. There is a requirement to work statutory holidays.
Any employee may be required to stay at or return to work during public health incidents and/or emergencies to perform duties specific to this classification or to perform other duties as requested in an assigned response position. This may require working a non-traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during the incident and/or emergency.
