Job Description

SEM is a locally owned multi- disciplinary consulting firm providing a comprehensive range of professional services in the natural resources and other industries. Our experienced and collaborative team offers locally relevant and practical solutions to support responsible development across Newfoundland and Labrador.

We are currently seeking a full-time

Environmental Scientist/Technician

to be based out of our Labrador City, NL office. The candidate will work with other team members and assist with completing project-based work for a variety of clients spanning from baseline studies to monitoring and assessing environmental impacts.

We are in search of a motivated individual who enjoys working as part of a team environment and approaches every challenge with a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to safety. The role will require traveling for extended periods to support fieldwork and contribute to project success across a variety of client needs.

Key Responsibilities



Collect and analyze water and soil samples Prepare field notes and accurate data entry Maintain accurate records as per company QA/QC protocols Utilize various field instruments for data collection Technical writing and report preparation for a broad spectrum of topics including, but not limited to: species at risk, avifauna, rare plants, wetlands, air quality, water quality, etc. Maintain field equipment and ensure equipment is calibrated Participate in vegetation, wildlife, and aquatic surveys Operate trucks, boats, ATVs, UTVs, and snowmobiles Perform lifting and manual tasks as required Hike over rough terrain and/or snow in various weather conditions Travel within Newfoundland and Labrador, including remote locations Collaborate with biologists, surveyors, engineers, and scientists Other responsibilities as required

Education and Experience



Post-secondary education in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Policy, Biology, Chemistry, or related fields of study Demonstrated data organization and general computer skills Experience working in mines is an asset but not required Willingness to work overtime as required, including weekends GIS experience and knowledge is considered an asset Valid driver's license (Class 5 or equivalent)
