In this role, you will be involved in assessing site history and field characterization to determine the current status of contamination, determining the potential impacts from contamination to human and ecological receptors, establishing remediation goals to mitigate the potential impacts, assessing remedial options and selecting and implementing the recommended remediation strategy. The position includes a balance between remediation planning, technology evaluation, execution of field activities, and documentation. The Environmental Remediation Specialist will directly support the Land Use and End-State initiative by providing direct technical support and supporting the communications team in any engagements with the public, First Nations and Metis. What will you be doing?

\xc2\xb7 Assessing the site history of known impacted areas.

\xc2\xb7 Confirming/developing conceptual site models for contaminant movement.

\xc2\xb7 Conducting and/or coordinating field characterization.

\xc2\xb7 Performing and/or facilitating risk assessments, including Site-Wide Environmental Remediation Analysis and Waste Management Area Trench Safety Case to understand the human health and ecological risks.

\xc2\xb7 Performing and/or facilitating remedial options evaluations based on risk assessments.

\xc2\xb7 Participating in the development of work plans and procedures for the execution of Environmental Remediation fieldwork.

\xc2\xb7 Developing and coordinating resources for the operation and construction of new remediation systems.

\xc2\xb7 Executing and/or facilitating the executions of the remedial work.

\xc2\xb7 Coordinating the disposition of the wastes resulting from remediation.

\xc2\xb7 Completing project close-out and other documentation to support WL Site End State.

\xc2\xb7 Contributing to developing protective, risk-based remedial goals/clean-up criteria for various environmental media.

\xc2\xb7 Following the Integrated Work Control Process.

\xc2\xb7 Providing detailed review and comment on technical documents related to the CNL Environmental Remediation and Environmental Protection at WL.

\xc2\xb7 Reviewing and accepting deliverables from Contractors.

\xc2\xb7 Working with trades, project staff, radiation protection, operations and other support groups to resolve problems and issues related to planning and executing the CNL Environmental Remediation and Decommissioning programs.

\xc2\xb7 Preparing technical reports and researching tools, equipment and techniques used in Decommissioning and Environmental Remediation.

\xc2\xb7 Maintains confidentiality in all matters.

\xc2\xb7 Other duties as assigned by manager.

What we are looking for:

\xc2\xb7 Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat \xe2\x80\x9cStandard on Security Screening\xe2\x80\x9d and the \xe2\x80\x9cPolicy on Government Security\xe2\x80\x9d.

\xc2\xb7 Bachelor (Honours) in Engineering or Environmental Science from a university of recognized standing or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.

\xc2\xb7 A minimum of 5-10 years of related experience in the field of Environmental Remediation augmented with suitable knowledge in the nuclear field.

\xc2\xb7 Good interpersonal skills that are required to interact with team members, internal suppliers, operations\' representatives, external contractors, project stakeholders, CNL management, and client organization.

\xc2\xb7 Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

\xc2\xb7 Able to gather, analyze, and assemble a variety of technical information.

\xc2\xb7 Results driven and able to interpret project needs and implement solutions.

\xc2\xb7 Awareness of standards, regulatory requirements, best available methodologies in remediation, characterization, and risk assessment as they pertain to nuclear remediation work.

\xc2\xb7 Awareness of federal and provincial (Manitoba) guidelines and regulations for environmental site assessment.

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of environmental sampling methods to ensure adequate characterization of sites to established data quality objectives.

\xc2\xb7 Field work experience in site characterization and remediation.

\xc2\xb7 Familiarity with remedial technologies and techniques.

\xc2\xb7 An understanding of groundwater, effluent and other types environmental monitoring.

\xc2\xb7 Experience with large scale environmental remediation projects.

\xc2\xb7 Experience with statistical analyses, especially pertaining to site characterization data.

\xc2\xb7 Familiarity with exposure assessment and pathways analysis (migration of contamination through environmental compartments and temporal changes). Particularly radiological dose assessment experience with tools such as MICROSHEID and RESRAD.

\xc2\xb7 Understanding of the integrated work control process (IWCP).

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of CNL\xe2\x80\x99s practices, procedures and organization.

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of CNL\xe2\x80\x99s compliance programs including the supporting documentation to demonstrate compliance.

\xc2\xb7 Understanding of CNSC regulations and how they apply to CNL Decommissioning and Environmental Remediation activities.

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of radiation protection principles, measurements and contamination control.

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of Waste Management principles and volume reduction methodologies.

Working Conditions:

\xc2\xb7 Office environment where regular concentration at a computer screen is required.

\xc2\xb7 The primary work environment will be at the Whiteshell site and must be able to access the site on short notice when required.

\xc2\xb7 Field visits may be necessary, requiring the use of all applicable safety equipment and absolute adherence to safe work policies/practices, radiation protection policies/practices and any other CNL safety requirements as mandated by the organization.
