Join a team that has the environment down to a science.Your OpportunityStantecxe2x80x99s Alberta Environmental Services group is currently seeking an Environmental Planner to work within our Assessment, Permitting and Compliance Team.We are relationship builders who have established excellent working relationships with regulators and clients in western Canada. Our regulatory knowledge, environmental assessment experience and scientific expertise allow us to help our clients develop the most effective and innovative approach to meeting their regulatory and permitting needs. In this position you will be exposed to an exciting array of projects in various stages of their lifecycle including permitting, approval requirements, and construction and post-construction support. Typical projects include small to large-scale provincial and federal pipelines, oil and gas facilities, and power-related projects (including renewables) as well as urban development projects. We are always growing as we continue to adapt to the changing environment in which we work and are excited to work on a number of exciting projects.Your Key ResponsibilitiesCoordinate with teams of technical environmental and engineering specialists to support the environmental assessment, application development and permitting processesAssess habitat condition within natural environment and conduct or coordinate field surveys. Collect, maintain, and analyze ecological data.Plan and implement ecological restoration projects and park management plans.Coordinate with engineering disciplines and other biological disciplines to prepare deliverables.Work directly with clients to provide strategic environmental advice and project management throughout all stages of a projectxe2x80x99s lifecycle including approval, construction, post-construction and operational management within both provincial (AB and BC) and federal regulatory frameworksCreate and provide review of environmental assessments and technical documents that support regulatory permittingAuthor environmental assessments and technical documents that support regulatory submissions and construction supportPrepare budgets, manage scope changes, establish schedules and ensure that project work is carried out within agreed time-frames and on budgetContribute to business development activities, including proposals, pre-qualifications, and relationship building with existing and prospective clientsSupport and ensure implementation of Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) policies, procedures, standards and guidelines in the execution of all work and coordinate with HSSE professionals during the execution of all phases of project planning and implementationCommunicate and collaborate with other environmental and regulatory specialists to ensure consistency in project executionParticipate in team and independent based workTake part in on the job learning and professional development opportunitiesQualificationsYour Capabilities and CredentialsAbility to work with initiative, professionalism and confidentiality, multi-task and adapt to change in a very dynamic environmentStrong understanding of provincial (AB, BC) and federal regulations, permitting requirements and environmental assessment processesDemonstrated effective writing and communication skillsStrong attention to detailEffective writing and communication skillsProven problem-solving skills and out-of-the-box thinkingStrong interpersonal and social skills and ability to interact across a broad range of audiences/technical backgrounds including internal and external clients and regulatory agenciesCommitted to providing quality deliverables in a timely mannerAbility to acquire, review and analyze biophysical data to develop or support the development of recommendations to provide to internal project teams and/or clientsAbility to act as field lead for wetland assessments and/or wildlife surveysYour Education and ExperienceA Bachelorxe2x80x99s degree in the Sciences or in Environmental Studies.Field identification skills for wetland assessments and/or wildlife identification skills. Other biophysical field skills considered an asset.Proficient with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)Minimum of three (3) years of experienceField identification skills for wetland assessments and/or wildlife identification skills.
