As part of the Corporate Environment Department, the Environmental Field Specialist is accountable for developing and implementing compliance documents required to meet regulatory obligations and project commitments for various projects. This requires the incumbent to ensure adherence to strict deadlines for submissions by working closely with Project Management Office staff, including GIS, Engineering, Real Estate and Communications. In addition, the Environmental Field Specialist is responsible for communicating program results to regulatory agencies, and where required, community organizations, environmental groups, right holders and landowners. This position is also required to develop and implement environmental management plans and post-construction monitoring programs. Key Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing compliance documents required to meet regulatory obligations and project commitments (i.e., project specific environmental management plans and post- construction monitoring programs) and providing regular update to regulatory agencies.
  • Performing environmental field audits and inspections, as required.
  • Providing oversight to First Nations Monitors.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Environment & Natural Resources, Biology, Forestry, Civil Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
  • A minimum of (2) two years of professional experience in the environmental field.
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial environmental Acts and Regulations (e.g. Fisheries Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act, Watercourse and Wetland Alteration Regulations, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of environmental protection measures.
  • Proficiency in data management and Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License or a Class 7 Level II Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Working knowledge of GIS mapping and proficiency in ArcGIS is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ecosystems is an asset.
The successful candidate will possess strong multitasking skills, with the ability to meet strict deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills are also essential to this role. Extensive travel within the Province of New Brunswick is required. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified. An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
