JOB SUMMARY:




The role of the Environmental and Fisheries Coordinator is career development role to assist and support in the implementation of the Treaty, Lands and Resources Department Land, Water, and Environment Program, and to coordinate and support TWN's food fish and distribution program.


The Environmental and Fisheries Coordinator is responsible for the following:

Assist the environmental team in collaboration with Community Development Assist with and support the TWN food fish and distribution program Provide administrative support to the wider environmental team Coordination with wider fisheries organizations

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:




The below duties are only illustrative and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed by this position. Further, the described list does not preclude management from assigning specific duties which are a logical assignment to the position.

Coordinate with the Community Development Department to facilitate community participation in environmental work. Coordination and supports in annual canoe race planning, permits, coordination and on the ground support. Liaise with community caterers and picks up traditional food for gatherings and ceremony. Support and coordinate with traditional foods inventory management, food safety and distribution. Coordinate schedules and calendars for events and meetings. Support in coordination and planning of conferences. Arrange travel, accommodation, venues and/or catering for meetings and events. Note taking and coordination of notes for external and internal meetings. Data entry support for field programs Assists with communications and community outreach (internally and externally). Coordinates delivery and on-ground logistics of the TWN Food Fish program, the TWN Elk Harvest, and in expanding traditional food programs. Assists and supports the planning and implementation of community events. Attends related workshops, First Nation organization forums and TWN's traditional food working group meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:



Completion of high school diploma. Experience volunteering or working within Tsleil-Waututh community an asset Experience volunteering or working organizing activities within TWN community an asset Previous experience working in a First Nations community and/or organization is an asset. Willing and able to complete training such as Food Safe, Microsoft Programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), etc. as needed Valid driver's license an asset Must comply with TWN's COVID-19 Vaccination Policy

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE



Good oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively Working knowledge of computers, the Internet and MS Office Programs Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; demonstrate flexibility, cooperation and ability to shift priorities rapidly. Good organizational skills and attention to detail. Demonstrates flexibility, cooperation, and the adaptability to changing priorities and working independently or as part of a team. Knowledge and appreciation of BC indigenous cultures, and ability to work in a dynamic cross-cultural setting.

WORKING CONDITIONS:




Physical Demands

Significant desk work with long periods of manual dexterity activities (keyboard operations, filing). Repetitive actions, such as lifting and bending.

Mental Focus

Ability to synthesize complex and diverse information. Ability to remain calm, professional, objective, and constructive. Attention to detail with strong organizational skills. Must model adherence to established systems and processes. Provide detailed and comprehensive strategic advice with little notice. Highly-developed ability to work under pressure. Responds quickly to reassignment of priorities.

Environmental Conditions

Dynamic environment with multiple demands, changing priorities and constant interruptions. Highly sensitive legal, confidential and political issues and environment. Engagement with other departments, levels of government and First Nations. * Occasional work outside normal office hours i.e. canoe races and fish distribution.
