Environmental Advisor

:




The Environmental Advisor supports the implementation of the Site-Specific Environmental Program by collaborating with the project team to monitor and enforce contractual and regulatory requirements, ensuring alignment with ISO 14001 standards and promoting sustainable construction practices.

How will you contribute to the team?:





To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:


Support the Environmental Manager and project team in the development, implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of Site-Specific Environmental Plans. Monitor on-site Environmental Programs to ensure compliance with applicable procedures, contractual obligations, legislative requirements, and site-specific plans. Assist in securing all necessary environmental permits for the project. Provide recommendations to enhance environmental protection and resolve instances of non-compliance or inefficient practices. Collaborate with the Environmental Manager, project teams, and consultants to plan and coordinate environmental responsibilities. Coordinate and support on-site environmental activities. Assist in preparing Environmental Incident Reports, participate in investigations, and support corrective actions through to close-out. Compile and submit environmental compliance reports to the client in line with contractual requirements, ensuring accurate documentation is maintained. Conduct weekly environmental inspections to verify construction activities align with site-specific plans. Participate in internal and external environmental audits. Act as a liaison, alongside the Environmental Manager, between the project team and environmental regulators and consultants. Accompany third-party inspectors during site reviews and oversee the resolution of identified compliance issues. Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Environmental Program. Provide technical support in areas such as sustainability, climate change, net zero initiatives, and energy efficiency. Assist with sustainable resource management, materials efficiency, and circular economy practices.



Education and Experience:


Post-secondary program in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of industry-related training and experience. 3-5 years of experience in project-based environmental management or advisory roles, preferably within the construction industry. Experience in sustainability, ESG, Net Zero initiatives, climate risk assessment and management, energy efficiency, materials management, and circular economy is considered an asset. Knowledge of ISO 14001 standards and relevant environmental regulations. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities. Effective organizational and project management skills. Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Working Conditions:




Office and site-based position. When on site, personal protective equipment (i.e. hard hat, safety boots) required at all times.
