Job Description

Assist the Director, Enterprise Risk Management in ensuring WSIB's consistent application of the enterprise risk management framework and applicable risk management directive requirements. Assist in the development, implementation and administration of enterprise-wide risk management programs and tools relating to financial, operational, strategic and reputational risk. Provide technical expertise, advice and leadership to various WSIB stakeholders, including major projects + programs on potential risks, and support risk-based decisions, including risk/reward + cost/benefit + options analysis. Support, educate and train staff to build risk awareness within the organization.

Major Responsibilities:



1. Assist Director, Enterprise Risk Management in developing, implementing and administering the enterprise risk management framework at the WSIB:

Identify stakeholders that require information to make decisions on risks facing the WSIB and ensure the right information is available to them in making risk-informed decisions;*
Contribute to the identification and monitoring of actions to strengthen the controls, identification of potential loss events and emerging risks (both internal and external);*
Plan, prepare and carry out risk identification and assessment workshops with business areas to identify and prioritize risks and assess the effectiveness of controls;*
Develop and facilitate risk management training with business areas*
Develop, implement and maintain tools and methodologies for identifying, logging, quantifying and reporting risks consistently as required;*
Design, implement and optimize the use of risk metrics and of governance risk and compliance technology and tools to enable automation, simplify risk management, and advance data-driven risk management*
Assess processes and strategies in place to mitigate risks, identify new ways to further enhance the business' risk mitigation and improve the overall risk return profile.*

2. Provide Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) reporting to relevant WSIB stakeholders:

Coordinate and prepare quarterly ERM Reports for Executive Committee and the Governance Committee of the Board of Directors as assigned.*

3. Develop and maintain effective communication linkages and relationships with business areas to discuss and resolve issues and exchange information of mutual concern in relation to enterprise wide risk management. Act as a trusted risk advisor to the business areas to facilitate meaningful dialogue around risks associated with significant enterprise decisions.

Liaise with business areas and ensure that risk monitoring, management and reporting of key risk exposures are appropriately set at the enterprise level through independent monitoring;*
Consult to risk/control owners' around the identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks on an ongoing basis;*
Advise business areas on technical elements of risk management which involves risk identification, assessment, mitigation planning, monitoring, triggers/responses, evaluation and reporting.*

4. Assist Director, Enterprise Risk Management, and, Senior Director, Corporate Risk Management Services in managing the internal governance process for new initiatives as they relate to enterprise risk:

Participate in the Portfolio Governance Committee as assigned;*
Ensure all participants have identified the risks related to the new initiative and mitigated actions have been identified, if required;*
Enhance risk analysis tools used for project submissions and reporting*

Job Requirements:



1) Education requirements:

Minimum Level Required

Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance or Economics*

Preferred Level

Master's degree in Business, Finance or Economics*
Canadian Risk Management (CRM), Fellow in Risk Management (FRM) or RIMS Fellow (RF) designation*

2) Experience:

Minimum Level Required

5-7 years in the Financial or Insurance field in a similar role, Operational Risk role or Risk Management consulting role focusing on Financial Institutions*
3+ years leadership role*
Experience implementing a orporate risk management framework and policy*
Experience developing and implementing risk measures to quantify and predict risks using data.*
Experience developing, implementing and using a Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) management tool in a comparator organization.*
Sound and practical knowledge of enterprise risk management and business strategy*
Knowledge and understanding of legislative requirements applying to public agencies and to the WSIB specifically*
Personal effectiveness (flexible, adaptable, self-confident, decisive)*
Problem solving, analysis, judgment, analytical skills, experience with developing quantitative risk models*
Ability to deliver (initiative, perseverance, energetic and process improvement skills)*
Interpersonal Savvy (listening skills and empathy, strong written and presentation skills)*

Preferred Level

7-10 years in the Financial or Insurance field in a similar role, Operational Risk or Risk Management consulting role focusing on Financial Institutions*
3+ years leadership role*
Same as minimum*
