Position Summary
Reporting to the Director, Information Technology, this role is responsible for providing definition and facilitation for the development and implementation of the technology architecture required to meet organizational needs, goals and strategic direction. This role will translate business objectives into actionable technical roadmaps and oversee implementation by working collaboratively within the IT division and key stakeholders across the organization. It will play a key role in identifying future technology needs and architecture required to deliver robust, secure, performant and scalable IT services across the Corporation.
Major Job Responsibilities
Strategy & PlanningProvide leadership, guidance and recommendations business-wide for enterprise architecture, information architecture, security architecture, application architecture and infrastructure architecture through project contribution, documentation, research, system implementations and roadmaps.
Working within the IT leadership team, provides ongoing guidance, recommendations and definition of current and future technology and information architecture to effectively support the business needs.
Develop and maintain an integration architecture blueprint for the organization based on current and future business needs.
Proactive approach and recommendations to IT division to continually enhance and strengthen overall reliability, performance, scalability and security of technology architecture deployed across the business.
Acquisition & DeploymentReviews and approves deviations from established technology and architecture standards as required to accommodate approved projects and operational business needs.
Works with senior leadership to assign allocation of budget to meet architectural initiatives critical to business/mission success.
Research and make recommendations on integration products and services in support of procurement and development efforts.
Recommend and plan for the adoption of new technologies that can drive innovation and efficiency.
Operational ManagementWorks on highly complex technical projects that require in-depth knowledge across multiple specialized architecture domains.
Work with IT leadership to define and document current and future IT systems architecture for products that align to strategic business goals, standard technology principles and best practices.
Responsible for the definition, design and interpretation of technical architecture artefacts taken from user requirements specifications or in direct discussions with the business, to create a solutions architecture to meet ongoing business requirements. Work with existing and new external vendors and partners to procure, install and configure new technology.
Work with infrastructure and application teams to identify current/future deficiencies in operational capability, disaster recovery, scalability, performance, simplicity, security, and maintainability. Develop strategic standards, designs, policy, procedures and roadmaps to address deficiencies identified.
Identify and assess risks associated with IT systems and infrastructure.
Education & ExperienceBachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, computer engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Master's degree in computer science, information systems, computer engineering, system analysis, or a related field is preferred
Minimum of 5 years of Information Technology work experience including architecture design and deployment, infrastructure planning and operations, systems lifecycle management, application development, database management and public/private cloud deployment.
Full-stack knowledge of IT infrastructure: Applications, Databases, Operating systems, Hypervisors, IP networks, storage networks including backup networks and media.
Understanding of Web services and API protocols (SOAP, REST, XML, UDDI, WSDL).
Advanced knowledge of network concepts, technologies and protocols including LAN, MAN, WAN, TCP/IP, UDP, TLS/SSL, routing, switching, authentication, VPN, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, proxy, NAT, IPv4/6.
Proven experience in developing enterprise and solution level architectural designs as well as linking of cross-functional applications between disparate business units and systems.
Requires exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments.
Knowledge of all components of holistic enterprise architecture, business re-engineering principles and processes, and basic knowledge of financial models and budgeting.
Experience designing the deployment of applications and infrastructure into public/private cloud services.
Experience in working on and collaborating with cross-functional teams or projects and influencing senior level management and key stakeholders.
IT Information Library Foundations certification (ITIL)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to communicate highly technical information to a non-technical audience.
The ability to come up with solutions that effectively address business and IT issues through technical analysis, troubleshooting, research, evaluation, and communication.
Strong working knowledge of IT service management (e.g., ITIL-related disciplines): Change management, Configuration management, Asset management, and Incident management.
Working knowledge of Municipal data privacy and protection legislation, including MFIPPA.
