Looking for a new and exciting job opportunity? We are seeking an Engineering Technologist - Mechanical to join our Plant Maintenance Engineering team. In this role, you will provide technical support and mechanical design expertise for transit-related facilities and structures. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the reliability, safety, and performance of critical infrastructure within our organization.

What You Will Do
Provide engineering support and design expertise in building services design, including HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, high pressure piping, fluid storage and distribution systems, bus hoists and other vehicle servicing equipment, emergency tunnel ventilation, elevators, and escalators for all types of transit facilities and structures.
This also involves the following:

• Preparing detailed contract drawings using CADD software.
• Preparing analysis and design calculations to determine final designs.
• Providing sketches and marked drawings to Design Draftspersons to enable them to produce mechanical drawings.
• Developing design concepts for building mechanical systems.
• Developing Standard and Directive Drawings for mechanical work.
• Providing edited copy of mechanical specifications to Engineering Standards and Support section for the production of final specifications for tender and construction.
• Assisting in preparation of Division 1 specifications by providing input into the scope of work description, work hour restrictions, construction constraints, etc.
• Participating in interdisciplinary meetings as well as coordinating design with engineers and other design services groups to produce a co-ordinated set of contract drawings and specifications while meeting requirements established by user groups.
• Researching and incorporating relevant codes and standards associated with the work, including but not limited to: Ontario's Building Code (OBC), National Building Code (NBC), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Ontario Fire Code (OFC), American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers Inc. (ASHRAE), American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE), American National Standards Institute (ANSI) / American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Electrical Safety Code ESA and TTC Design Standards.
• Providing support to the Operations Department, including troubleshooting and emergency response to assess problems as well as providing input for corrective measures, on an as-needed basis for problems related to mechanical building systems and engineering matters.
• Researching, creating and updating the TTC Design Manual, Standard/Directive Drawings and Master Specifications.
• Supports construction activities associated with designs completed by the Mechanical Design section.
• Assist in the professional development and management of the Mechanical Section.
• Supports construction activities associated with designs completed by the Mechanical Design section.

What Qualifications Do You Bring

• Completion of a University Degree or College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, and or equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
• Additionally, an O.A.C.E.T.T. certification as an Engineering Technologist, or other relevant professional designation is an asset.
• Must have sound knowledge of mechanical engineering design principles, methods and practices with specific knowledge of their application to the construction of surface and subway transit related buildings, facilities and equipment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, plumbing, drainage, high pressure piping, fire protection, and fleet servicing equipment including and not limited to fluid distribution and storage tanks; escalators, elevators, hoisting/conveying equipment, fare collection; and emergency ventilation systems related to the underground tunnel and stations.
• Must be familiar with the applicable provincial and national codes, regulations and standards that govern mechanical design for buildings such as: Ontario Building Code (OBC); National Building Code; Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA); Ontario Fire Code; ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers) Standards; ASPE (American Society of Plumbing Engineers); ANSI (American Nation Standards Institute) and ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers); CSA (Canadian Standards Association); Electrical Safety Code; and TTC Design Standards.
• Must possess sound judgement, and well developed analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, verbal communication and technical report writing skills.
• Must be computer literate with working knowledge of: Bentley MicroStation or Autodesk AutoCAD, building heating and cooling load analysis software packages, MS word processing, MS excel spread sheets and other relevant software applications related to the work.
• Possession of a valid Class "G" Driver's license for the Province of Ontario and access to a personal vehicle to travel to sites not accessible by public transit.
