Department/Faculty Summary Assisting with the design and development of a variety of prototypes in Device Development lab of the SMART Network. Duties
  • Circuit board design, assembly, and testing
  • Code development for:
    • microcontroller systems (C++ typically)
    • desktop/laptop/mobile apps (mostly Microsoft Visual Studio)
  • 3D printing
    • Creating an/or editing 3D files to prepare for 3D printing
    • Executing 3D printing projects
  • Machining
    • 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machining using CAD/CAM
    • manual machining (lathe, milling machine, drill press, band saw etc.)
    • laser micromachining.
  • Maintaining and contributing to a Quality Management System
Qualifications
  • Diploma in Biomedical Engineering Technology or Electronics Engineering Technology or Computer Engineering Technology
  • Must be eligible to be recognized as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with ASET
  • Practical machining or workshop experience required
  • Experience using Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM)
    • Autodesk Fusion 360 or equivalent (e.g, Solidworks, Autocad)
  • CNC (3-axis and 5-axis) operating experience
  • 3D printing experience
  • Computer programming experience (C++, Java)
  • Microcontroller system design experience (e.g. Arduino)
    • Integrating sensors and peripherals
    • Programming
    • Analog circuit design
    • Wireless communication (e.g. Bluetooth, WiFi)
  • Mobile device programming experience (smart phones, tablets)
  • Team-player
  • Able to work effectively with a range of colleagues, Including medical collaborators, neuroscience as well as Computing Science colleagues
  • Very good communicator, in both written and spoken English
  • Able to effectively time-manage many different tasks and priorities, both large and small
  • Ability to read, interpret and design advanced plans, specifications, diagrams, and charts of a complex technical nature
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, reporting writing skills, organizational skills, project delivery skills, and deal with the highly diverse audiences involved
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate, obtain and maintain cooperation and support from operating personnel as well as other stakeholders
