The Engineering Technician (Public Works) is responsible for various engineering related duties and projects within the City of Kawartha Lakes' Public Works department, Roads Operations division.

Department Public Works
Location Roads Operations (West B). Lindsay, ON.
Hours Normal Working Hours are 40 hours per week
Other General office environment. Travel throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes in accordance with job requirements.
Review and assess commercial and residential property entrance permits including, but not limited to, sight distance measurements and calculations, culvert sizing, type and entrance dimensions
Provide basic survey and GIS support to Area Managers/Supervisors as assigned; including, but not limited to, determination of grades, site plan generation using survey or digital aerial photography and property line location
Assist and provide support in regard to drainage issues, the Ontario Traffic Manual and budget or financial analysis of work
Liaise with other divisions relating to sanitary sewer or water projects, as assigned
Provide engineering and technical support with a focus on operations, capital and asset management programs, including: project management and inspection services, preparation of specifications and contract documents, coordinating preparation of construction drawings, payment certificates and project process draws
Assist with the collection and analysis of field construction reports
Review geotechnical consultant reports
Inspection of water distribution system, storm sewer, and sanitary sewer upgrades and road improvements
Maintain plans, maps, drawings and other records reflecting the municipal infrastructure
Collect field data for 'as constructed' plans
Perform pre-engineering and construction surveys for capital improvement projects
Coordinate traffic related activities
Review and prepare comments for all applications for development within the City using the City's Standards
Perform other related duties as assigned
Skills/Education Required
Post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering or a related field
Minimum 2 years of related progressive experience, preferably in a municipal environment
Working toward certification with the Ontario Association of Certified Technicians and Technologists
Proficiency in Total Station Surveys and layout
Experience in the specific area of specialty, Public Works roads operations
Demonstrated professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy, use confidential information appropriately, treat sensitive situations with appropriate degree of tact and discretion
Demonstrated customer-service and interpersonal skills at a level to develop and to maintain cooperative/collaborative working relationships both within and outside the organization

Demonstrated ability to understand and abide by municipal policies and procedures
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and any other related software
Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's Licence
