The Opportunity:



The Director of Public Works provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for assigned Engineering


and Public Works (EPW) services. This role is responsible for infrastructure planning, service delivery,


regulatory compliance, and asset management while ensuring adherence to all applicable legislation and


regulations.





What you will do:



o Develop and implement the District's strategic plan for Public Works infrastructure


Provide leadership and guidance on long-term infrastructure planning and strategies Champion continuous improvement initiatives to meet District strategic priorities Drive change management and performance improvement initiatives Provide leadership, direction, and technical support to departmental staff Recruit, develop, and evaluate staff performance in accordance with District policies Ensure strategic planning, staff development, and succession planning Foster a culture consistent with District values and procedures Ensure employee and facility safety and security Verify compliance with relevant statutes, regulations, and District safety procedures Maintain safe work environments and enforce safety directives Oversee adherence to provincial and federal environmental statutes and standards Direct contractors and consultants providing Public Works services, construction, and maintenance Review and approve development applications and official plan amendments related to Public Works Manage procurement processes within approved spending authority Oversee capital and operational project delivery Develop and monitor annual operating and capital budgets Control expenditures while ensuring cost effectiveness and reliable operations Manage contracted service providers to optimize fund utilization and service levels Approve purchase orders, contracts, and agreements within delegated authority Develop and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders Ensure Public Works services support community interests Prepare and present reports to Council and EPW Committee as required Represent the District at meetings with Area Municipalities and regulatory agencies Act on behalf of the Commissioner, EPW when assigned Perform related duties as assigned

What you will need:



o Graduate of a university program in Applied Science, Environmental Engineering or Civil Engineering.


Preference to a member in good standing with PEO (Professional Engineers Ontario) or OACETT (Ontario


Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists), however, individuals with equivalent


education, experience and certifications may also be considered.


Seven to 10 years directly related experience pertaining to infrastructure and Public Works services,
including 3-4 years of progressive management experience.
Demonstrated familiarity with provincial and federal environmental statutes, standards and practices as
they pertain to the assigned Public Works service area(s).
Working knowledge of computer assisted engineering methods and management information systems. Proven leadership and strategic thinking skills with demonstrated experience in driving change, leading
continuous improvement and achieving performance objectives.
Well-developed communication (oral and written), organizational, analytical, interpersonal, teambuilding
and coaching skills.
