The Bruce County Transportation and Environmental Services Department has approximately 650 km of road and approximately 148 bridges under its jurisdiction. The department administers a road system composed of \'collector and arterial\' roads, which distinguishes the County system from the local municipal road system. This system provides a consistent level of service between local urban, industrial, commercial and recreational centers. The Transportation and Environmental Services Department also coordinates Waste Management for the County.

About the Job

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Engineering Technician is responsible for completing preliminary engineering surveys for road designs and performing the construction layout for each road project. The incumbent reviews and assesses construction drawings and layouts in order to resolve any conflicts with design and field discrepancies and creates budget estimates for proposed projects. The incumbent also serves as a contact for any public inquiries regarding County policy and permit applications, as well as reviewing and approving those permits.

Requirements

  • Three-year post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Three years of previous work experience in the engineering field
  • Certified designation from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologies (OACETT) (C. Tech or C.E.T.)
  • Demonstrated skill and experience with Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret goals, objectives, and policies
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, field drawings, and plans
  • Ability to respond quickly in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Complete familiarity with the construction site in all aspects pertaining to civil engineering, surveying, materials, and construction methods
  • Experience managing third-party service providers
  • Experience with strategic development and initiative-based project leadership
  • Knowledge of the methods, techniques, and requirements for the maintenance and upkeep of buildings, facilities, grounds, and equipment
  • Valid Class G Driver\'s License
  • Audiometric Testing completed within 90 days of starting position
