Spectra-Physics, Ophir, Newport and ESI are brands within the MKS Instruments Photonics Solutions division. We provide a full range of solutions including lasers for precision industrial and scientific research applications, laser and LED measurement, beam profiling, precision motion control, optical tables and vibration isolation systems, photonics instruments, temperature sensing, opto-mechanical components, optical elements, and systems for flexible PCB laser processing, high-speed MLCC testing, and CO2-laser-based systems HDI PCB and IC substrate manufacturing. MKS Photonics Solutions enhance our customers\xe2\x80\x99 capabilities and productivity in the semiconductor, advanced electronics and specialty industrial markets.

We are looking for an exceptional Co-op Student who can play a key role in supporting the development of new technologies and products by executing day-to-day lab work. The co-op will report to a supervisor within the Engineering group and will complete tasks as outlined below during their tenue. The placement will be for an initial 4 months with the option to extend to 8 months depending on performance and business need.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Executing experiments to develop or scale-up manufacturing processes.
  • Conducting design of experiments for materials and system characterization.
  • Building and testing prototypes
  • Performing routine measurements, data analysis, and interpretation of results.
  • Summarizing findings, writing reports, and presenting technical data to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Generating engineering documents such as process development reports, SOPs, test procedure, assembly instruction, etc.
  • Follow and implement general lab safety practices.
  • Conduct literature reviews.


Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • Undertaking a degree in in applied sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Materials), Mechatronics or Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • You must be enrolled as a full-time student preceding the co-op assignment
  • Excellent technical, analytical and hands-on skills and strong attention to details
  • Proficient or good understanding of data analysis and statistics with good problem-solving skills with systematic analytical interpretation of data
