Reporting to the Sr. Engineer of Nitric Acid and Nitrate, the successful candidate will provide technical support for the Nitric Acid and Ammonium Nitrate production facility at Redwater Fertilizer Operations. The incumbent will primarily work directly with operations and maintenance to ensure safe, efficient and reliable unit performance and make decisions and suggestions to address problem areas and improve overall plant performance.

What you will do:

• Provide technical support for the Nitric Acid and Ammonium Nitrate production facilities
• Work directly with operations and maintenance to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable unit performance and make decisions and suggestions to address problem areas and improve overall plant performance
• Regular monitoring of key performance indicators to identify problems and opportunities in the Unit with the goal of continuously improving safety, production, efficiency, cost, and environmental performance
• Lead or participate in process incident investigations and drive resolution to follow-up action items
• Provide leadership, support, and ownership in the area of Operational Risk Management (ORM) by working with Operations, Maintenance and Engineering personnel to assess and mitigate risks associated with operational issues
• Initiate and support the development of plant specific projects (Capital and Management of Change (MOC)) to increase reliability and production with appropriate risk and economic justification
• Support adherence to the 14 elements of our PSM program by providing guidance and leadership to the MOC, Pre-Start-up Safety Review (PSSR), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Process Safety Information (PSI), and Safe Operating Limits (SOL) processes and systems
• Ensure engineering standards are maintained in own work area as well as in areas of responsibility
• Support the production accounting process by tracking and reporting on all production volumes, losses and monthly production records
• Participate in plant start-ups and shut-downs as required
• Provide mentorship to other employees as required

What you will bring:

• Chemical engineering degree or other related engineering discipline with 5+ years of experience
• Registered (or immediately eligible) with APEGA as a professional engineer
• Experience in the Fertilizer or Petro-chemical Industry is considered an asset
• Knowledge in pressure vessel, piping codes, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors and safety valves
• Ability to work in an operational team environment with limited supervision
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Experience working with Microsoft Office applications, SAP and Aspen HYSYS (or other simulation software)
