Marie, including the distribution of electricity, the supply, treatment, and distribution of municipal drinking water, and the operation of wastewater treatment facilities. PUC offers a dynamic, challenging and rewarding work environment that encourages collaboration and innovative thinking. We are seeking a new member to join our Electrical Engineering team. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, innovative, demonstrating strong technical knowledge, and an innate desire to learn and grow. Reporting to the Manager, Electrical Engineering, the Electrical Engineering CO-OP student will assist with a variety of activities related to the design, construction, operations, and maintenance associated with electrical distribution and transmission systems and municipal streetlighting. PUC is seeking a 4-month CO-OP student starting May 1, 2023, and willing to work with candidates to suit their education schedule. The primary responsibilities of this position include:
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering designs and work orders for capital works, system extensions, maintenance, operations or replacement.
  • Assist with development and review for drawings and specifications for construction to meet regulatory requirements of Ontario Regulation 22/04.
  • Ensure work is in compliance with regulatory requirements and legislation such as the Ontario Energy
Board, IESO, and Regulations 22/04.
  • Assist with the preparation of contracts for tender as well as supporting contractor management duties.
  • Provide technical support pertaining to electric distribution systems including: the establishment and maintenance of distribution standards, SCADA, protection and control, substations, system coordination, and line design.
  • Assist in the planning and design for long term sustainability and reliability of the electric distribution system.
  • Research company records to verify infrastructure details
  • Assemble and analyze budgets and project costs.
  • Assist with verifying bills of materials and monitoring the availability of materials and recommending appropriate new materials and equipment as required.
  • Contribute to innovative solutions towards technological advancements for our customers.
  • Provide quality services to our customers in a safe, and efficient manner.
  • Contribute to leveraging technology to digitize processes.
  • Review of municipal streetlighting systems and processes.
  • Review and recommend smart city opportunities.
Qualifications:
  • Be enrolled in a Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) accredited Bachelor of Science, Electrical
Engineering program.
  • Have gained a sound working knowledge of engineering principles related to electrical distribution and associate communications and controls systems.
  • Familiarity with applicable legislation related to the supply and delivery of electricity is an asset.
  • Self-motivated and confident leader with strong communication and team building skills.
  • Demonstrated an ability to work with software such as Microsoft Office, CAD, GIS and databases.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills to solve complex technical problems.
  • Detail oriented with the commitment to safety.
  • Maintain a valid Ontario Driver\'s License.
