PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
As an Engineer Bridge Inspector, you'll be the vital link ensuring the safety and longevity of our railroad bridges by conducting scheduled, periodic, and emergency inspections. Your keen eye for detail and expertise will shape actionable feedback based on real-world conditions in the field. Not only will you train, qualify, and mentor field maintenance teams, but you'll also work hand-in-hand with the Railroad Bridge Engineer to develop and execute strategic action plans informed by your detailed inspections. This role comes with exciting perks, including a company vehicle and all paid travel expenses. Plus, you have the flexibility to be based in either Toronto, ON, or Montreal, QC.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Perform meticulous inspections in line with Transport Canada bridge safety standards and CPKC's bridge safety management plan-a vital contribution to maintaining world-class infrastructure
  • Audit bridge maintenance and renewal projects to ensure compliance with CPKC's Structures Red Book, transforming guidelines into flawless execution
  • Be the trusted advisor by providing savvy recommendations to the Manager of Bridge Maintenance, guiding strategic decisions that boost bridge performance and reliability
  • Inspect not just railroad bridges, but also overhead highway structures, culverts, retaining walls, and turntables-owning every aspect of structural safety
  • Take charge of the bridge inspection vehicle, directing its use and operation like a pro, ensuring every inspection is carried out with precision
  • Build and manage strong connections with engineering counterparts across your territory, fostering collaboration and excellence
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelors' degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in structural, geotechnical or construction management
  • Valid driver's license
  • Valid passport with ability to travel to U.S./CAN without restrictions
  • Experience in railroad bridge inspection, maintenance or construction
  • Ability to inspect bridges at heights and wear fall protection

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Medical and Drug Testing
This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
