Job Description

Working in partnership with Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney, MDS AeroTest operates the GLACIER aircraft engine icing test facility in Thompson, Manitoba. GLACIER is a unique, world-class facility that provides turbofan engine manufactures with a critical capability to conduct ice ingestion certification testing for the next generation of aircraft engines.


We are looking for an

Engine Test Operator

to join our dynamic team dedicated to testing next-generation aircraft engines, with a focus on performance and icing evaluations in extreme environments. The ideal candidate will have a background as an Aircraft Mechanic or Power Engineer or Industrial Mechanic or Instrumentation Mechanic and will bring hands-on technical experience and a commitment to operational excellence in a high-performance test environment.


As an Engine Test Operator, you will support activities related to transportation, installation, engine testing, component changes, and dispatch. Key responsibilities include preparing engines for tests, identifying and troubleshooting faults, performing maintenance, and ensuring all activities are carried out safely and in compliance with company and client procedures.

What you'll be doing:



To interface with Customers in the operation and testing of Aero Engines and auxiliary equipment including handling and transporting engines. Take ownership of assigned processes and support operational risk management activities for related systems/processes. To configure the facility and testing equipment in preparation for testing. This includes specialized test equipment, water spray systems, air compressors, hydraulic systems etc. . To operate and monitor facility and engine control systems, data acquisition systems and video/CCTV monitoring systems in accordance with a test plan. To troubleshoot and correct problems with mechanical, electrical, instrumentation or software test systems in a logical and timely fashion. To report any facility machines/ equipment failures, deficiencies and to actively pursue means to safely carry on running the facility in the interim. Support all phases of the testing cycle while working independently with minimal supervision. Manage consumables and tooling inventory and ensure all facility maintenance is performed and documented per company procedures. Collect aero engine and facility fluid samples for analysis, while working collaboratively to ensure cost-effective, efficient, and safe operations in compliance with local procedures and the QA Manual. Acquire the knowledge, experience, and necessary approvals to become a company signatory authorized to release work to the customer, and perform any other reasonable duties within your capacity as assigned by immediate supervision.

Who are we looking for?




If you have education or training in any of the below areas or relevant technical fields, you could be an excellent fit for this position.

Journeyperson Aircraft Mechanic; or Power Engineer (3rd class or higher); or Journeyperson Millwright/Industrial Mechanic; or Journeyperson Instrumentation Mechanic; or Recognized college diploma or equivalent experience.

Skills:

You have a practical approach to managing priorities and solving problems while staying calm under pressure. You have strong and confident communication skills. You have a solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental policies, with a commitment to following them. You meet the company's vision and hearing standards for effective inspections. You have a valid driver's license. You have a valid Canadian passport to support national and international travel as needed. You are committed to continuous growth, eager to challenge outdated methods, and open to learning new practices. Willingness to learn and pursue continuous professional development (Nice to have). Valid first aid certifications including CPR and AED (Nice to have).

What'll help you succeed?



Having experience in the aerospace industry and/or gas turbine testing will be a strong advantage. Familiarity with maintaining and operating complex systems, including PLC control and instrumentation equipment, will enhance your effectiveness. Skills in maintaining and operating mechanical equipment like pumps, hoists, and cranes will also contribute to your success.
