The Engagement Representative supports the recruitment and outreach activities of the First Peoples' Centre by assisting with event coordination, providing administrative and logistical support, and representing the College at Indigenous-focused engagement events. Working in collaboration with the Indigenous Recruitment and Student Engagement Officer, the incumbent fosters respectful relationships with Indigenous communities, schools, and partners to help promote access to culturally supportive pathways for Indigenous learners.
Responsibilities:
Support the Indigenous Recruitment and Student Engagement Officer by assisting with the coordination of student recruitment activities, including on- and off-campus events, education fairs, community visits, and school presentations
Represent Canadore College and the First Peoples' Centre at Indigenous-focused events, including high school presentations, community visits, education fairs, and outreach activities
Provide logistical and administrative support for recruitment and engagement initiatives (e.g., booking travel, preparing materials, confirming participation, event setup/takedown)
Provide campus tours and presentations that highlight the First Peoples' Centre, its services, and culturally supportive spaces across campus
Contribute to the development of promotional materials and social media content in collaboration with Marketing and FPC staff
Assist in tracking participation, maintaining contact lists, and preparing summaries to support reporting and continuous improvement
Communicate respectfully and knowledgeably with Indigenous community partners, students, and families, ensuring cultural protocols and relationship-building practices are upheld
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Lived experience as a First Nation, Inuit or Metis person and/or Strong cultural competency and knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and community protocols an asset
Two (2) Year Diploma in Business Management, Marketing, Advertising, Media, Public Relations, Communications, Indigenous Relations, Office Administration or a related field
Minimum six (6) months of in community outreach, event coordination, Indigenous education, or a related field
Demonstrated ability in public speaking and presentation delivery, with confidence representing an organization in formal and informal settings
Experience in planning, coordinating and marketing events
Familiarity with postsecondary systems and Indigenous education pathways is considered an asset
Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites and Social Media Platforms
Availability and flexibility to travel within Ontario
Valid Ontario Driver's License required
In-person, on-campus position. Must be able to reliably commute to North Bay, ON
