Cook Greystone Centre (part Time/ Casual Contract)

Job Description

The Cook will be responsible for preparing bulk meals/food for the Family SOS Lunchbox Project offsite programs. Cooking duties may include but are not limited to lunch meals for 560 children and teens. The cook is also responsible for creation of a rotating menu, food preparation and packaging, keeping track of fridge, freezer, and pantry inventory, communicating with their supervisor to order food, and maintaining kitchen upkeep.

Cleaning duties may include but are not limited to cleaning floors, washing dishes and kitchen equipment, removing garbage, notifying management of the need for repairs, and cleaning snow or debris from sidewalks when needed.

Hours of Work: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: 8:00 am-1:00 pm (15 hours weekly).



Contract: The Lunchbox Project operates during the school year, through a generous grant from the J & W Murphy Foundation.



The contract will run from September-December 2025, and January-March 2026 as per terms of the grant.

Job Duties

Prepares lunch for the Lunchbox program and cleans up afterwards. Plans menu, determines, records, and orders food supplies as required, within budget parameters. Ensures all food handling and preparation procedures comply with food safety regulations. Washes and sanitizes dishes and food containers. Sweeps, mops, sanitizes surfaces, empties garbage and recycle bins, performs all cleaning aspects of the kitchen to maintain cleanliness and organization. Interacts with community members, program participants and staff in a friendly and professional manner. Complies with nutrition and sanitation guidelines. Ensures safe and proper food storage and handling. Maintains a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash etc. Monitors need for equipment maintenance and repair and reports to supervisor.
Requirements

Bulk food preparation skills, menu planning, and food service knowledge are required. Highly motivated and able to work independently. Ability to follow recipes accurately and adjust cooking methods as needed. Familiarity with various cooking equipment and tools used in food preparation. Must be able to maintain expected attendance and prioritize work for self. Must be available for the priority hours of work determined for this role with the flexibility to adapt to changing requirements. Ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing. Ability to multi-task and establish priorities. Exhibit initiative, responsibility, and flexibility. Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Certifications and Experience

Cooking (4-5 year's experience preferred) Safe Food Handler's Certification WHMIS Certification First Aid/CPR Certification Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search Driver's License
Work Conditions

Physical ability to lift up to 50lb. Majority of the shift spent standing/on feet. Hazards associated with general cleaning, cooking and maintenance. Work mainly indoors, but will include some outdoor duties.
Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 10 months

Pay: $23.00-$25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 per week
