The Opportunity The M\xc3\xa9tis Nation of Alberta (MNA) is recruiting for a full-time Engagement Coordinator and Policy Analyst based in the Provincial Head Office in Edmonton. Reporting to the Engagement & Policy Manager and working in support of a passionate and dedicated team of professionals in the MNA\xe2\x80\x99s Environment and Climate Change department, the successful candidate will support the MNA\xe2\x80\x99s efforts to design and undertake environmental initiatives and programs aimed at fulfilling the department\xe2\x80\x99s pillars. These pillars include:
Protection of M\xc3\xa9tis tradition and culture

Community driven involvement
Key Responsibilities Working under the supervision of the Engagement & Policy Manager, the successful candidate will be required to provide engagement leadership and support to the MNA Environment and Climate Change department to assist with projects and initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for organizing and leading citizen engagements (online and in-person), developing print and digital materials to share information with citizens, and assisting with planning and implementation of aspects of environmental monitoring and conservation projects that require citizen involvement. Additionally, the successful candidate will review, provide recommendations, and assist management in liaising with stakeholders regarding environmental policies. Duties required of this position:
Plan, implement, and report on community engagement activities, including in-person presentations and discussions, and online engagements. Track community participation at monitoring events, and citizen participation as Community Monitors.
Develop, review, and assist in the publishing process of promotional and educational print and digital materials supportive of the Environment and Climate Change department\xe2\x80\x99s initiatives, including citizen reports, social media posts, and articles.
Create, edit, and maintain web-based content related to the Environment and Climate Change Team projects and initiatives.
Report and analyze feedback and recommendations gathered from community engagement to the MNA and other government organizations and develop recommendations and policy advice for the MNA.
Act as a liaison between the MNA\xe2\x80\x99s Environment and Climate Change and Communications departments.
Support Environment and Climate Change activities, including assisting in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, and priorities of the MNA.
Provide support for Environment and Climate Change project field activities, including environmental monitoring, site visits, and community events.
Develop and maintain constructive working relationships and partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders, including other MNA departments, project partners, contractors, governments, and businesses.
Maintain awareness of government policies and programs related to Environment and Climate Change and provides briefings and recommendations to the MNA.
Help develop policy positions on government affairs and legislative issues, as well as other issues as required.
Answer and direct calls and email inquiries from citizens regarding matters related to the Environment and Climate Change department\xe2\x80\x99s activities, projects, and initiatives.
Assist the Environment and Climate Change department with fulfilling information requests from citizens.
Other duties as required.
Skills & Competencies The Engagement Coordinator and Policy Analyst must be a team player who is able to work with staff and MNA citizens across the province, understand environmental management and monitoring, and have a passion and demonstrated experience with citizen engagements and working with Indigenous communities. Other required knowledge, skills, and qualifications include:

Qualifications
Minimum of a Diploma or Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Indigenous Studies, Community Engagement, Sociology, Anthropology, Environmental Sciences, or related field.
Minimum 1 year of community engagement experience, including gathering feedback on communities\xe2\x80\x99 needs, advising on plans to address them, and presenting to multiple audiences.
Experience in citizen engagement, outreach, and/or educational efforts that benefit the community is an asset.
Experience in proposal writing and completing applications is an asset.
Knowledge of, and experience in, environmental monitoring or conservation is an asset.
Knowledge and/or experience working in government/on government policies is an asset.
NVivo program training is an asset.
IAP2 training is an asset.
Other Requirements
Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday to Friday 8:30 \xe2\x80\x93 4:30, as well as frequent evenings and weekends.
Ability and willingness to travel within Alberta. This position will require up to 30% travel.
Additional, less frequent, out-of-province travel may also occur, with advanced notice.
Must have a valid class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and an operational vehicle.
