Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Project Engineering, the Energy Project Engineer will be responsible for providing leadership and management to the Engineering Projects Team as well as to external liaisons.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:




Assist Unity Health Toronto in achieving an annual emissions savings target and contributing to progressing the organization's GHG Emissions Roadmap Regularly monitor utilities consumption, preparing monthly summaries and reports as required to facilitate ongoing work of the Energy Team Assess energy savings opportunities and implementing selected projects and initiatives. Develop and prepare energy tracking, monitoring and reports as well as an annual energy management plan (CDM) Responsible for preparing and submitting greening incentives for projects through various programs such as SaveOnEnergy Accountable for construction projects and activities. Ensure construction costs and schedules are within budget and plan. Delegate tasks as necessary to external consultants, contractors, trades and service technicians. Project Manager/Construction Coordinator on capital renovation projects. Accountable for design review and approval, project tendering, construction coordination, site inspections and reviews, City of Toronto approvals and Occupancy. Manage budgets and schedules and approve detailed cost estimates and time lines for various renovations, construction and engineering projects. Provide advice and consultation to site supervisors of projects to ensure methods, materials and time lines are within specifications. Develop and implement strategies to ensure high customer satisfaction among internal and external clients. Develop and implement Hospital and Departmental policies, procedures and process improvements relating to renovations and major capital equipment procurement. Set up and review data trends via the Building Automation System to identify areas of opportunity and suggested measures for improvement in utilities consumption, equipment performance and equipment efficiency Identify gaps in ability to meter and monitor equipment performance and provide suggestions for resolution Analyze energy reports and advise measures to ensure proper level of energy consumption by means of the statistical analysis of both dynamic and static energy data. Actively participate in Hospital committees to represent the Engineering and Plant Services Department.



QUALIFICATIONS:




Completion of a recognized Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Applied Science or the experience required to apply for a Professional Engineering license Certified Engineering Technician, Certified Engineering Technologist, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Energy Manager In Training (EMIT), or a licensed professional engineer in the province of Ontario is preferred Successful applicant should intend to obtain CEM designation within the first year of employment Strong background in energy management Five years management experience in Construction and Engineering Project Management preferably in a health care setting Three (3) to Five (5) years project management experience, preferably in a health care environment required;
Demonstrated experience in facilitation, collaboration and negotiation with multiple stakeholders/service providers required; Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate information/ideas, in a manner that is easily understood by others required; Excellent customer service, interpersonal and listening skills with the ability to effectively interact with staff all levels required; Excellent computer skills e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint, required;
Excellent presentation and negotiation skills with the ability to influence others required; Excellent p roblem recognition and problem solving skills required;

Very good understanding of provincial health care, clinical processes with ability to use clinical data for improvement required;
Very good problem recognition and problem solving skills with the ability to deal with situations where information is difficult to obtain, complex or ambiguous required;
Detail oriented with very good analytical skills related to proposal development/project management required; U nderstands operational excellence, quality improvement, change management and process redesign concepts including lean/six sigma required;
Ability to solve moderately complex problems independently required; A bility to multi task while producing high quality work required;
Ability to work efficiently and effectively as a team player required; Ability to think on your own and pay close attention to detail required;
Ability to take initiative and work in a self-directed manner as required; Ability to produce work in accordance with Hospital policy and practice required;
A bility to handle multiple personalities/conflict and work well with others required;
Ability to effectively handle situations where information is difficult to obtain or complex required; Ability to work in a fast pace environment and motivate project staff to achieve a common goal required; Ability to effectively analyze problems, interpret needs and develop creative solutions required; Ability to manage straightforward small scale projects independently and/or with minimal assistance, as required; Ability to interact with people from all disciplines/levels, be flexible/adaptable to change and maintain confidentiality required; Ability to work well independently and collaboratively as a team player with staff/stakeholders to undertake report generation, analysis and project implementation required; Demonstrated team player with the a bility to be flexible and adaptable to change required;
Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the Hospitals Mission and values required.
