Reporting to the Supervisor Operational Technology Support, the Energy Management System (EMS) Engineer is responsible for providing technical lead to the Operations section in the monitoring, assessment, and analysis of SCADA System modeling. You will be responsible for maintaining the Energy Management System and interfaces to various Power Systems Operational Technology. You will be required to develop and maintain applications and displays used by Transmission and Distribution Operations. EMS Engineer must have knowledge and experience specifying, designing, programming, configuring, commissioning, and troubleshooting Energy Management Systems.
Responsibilities:
Update and support operational alarm limits (MVA & Voltage).
Building or modifying SCADA displays to reflect electrical system changes.
Update and maintain the real time power system model.
Maintain the quality of the EMS Advanced Applications.
Provide support for SOC Operators to review and validate real time applications.
Work with SCADA vendor to define system architecture and assist project team with periodic SCADA/EMS system upgrades.
Investigate/troubleshoot/fix modeling errors whenever State Estimator quality reaches a certain threshold.
Update and support the Operator Training Simulator including importing the current network model into the training simulator; maintaining DOTS database; testing upgrades; supporting the trainers and SME's in setup, inputting scenarios and use of the simulator.
Prepare, review, and edit technical documentation.
Work with the EMS modelling and data migration activities.
Compile and review operation and business requirements to support the development of project specifications.
Participate in system analysis including manual calculations, and preparation of study reports.
Participate in application and systems testing.
Complete projects assigned, including the management of schedule and quality.
Provide technical guidance and subject matter expert opinion for EMS related issues.
Review Transmission and Distribution IFR and IFC Points Lists.
Build or modify Transmission SCADA displays as required.
Support Transmission Engineers on new initiatives and/or project work.
Jointly develop training and development plans for staff including possibilities of future succession.
Provide recognition and encouragement to group members.
Provide technical support and mentorship to other EMS team members.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is required.
Professional Engineering Designation through A.P.E.G.A. is required.
5 - 10 years of experience working in an Electrical Utility Industry and/or in a control room real time operation environment is preferred.
Working knowledge of electrical transmission, distribution systems, distribution electrical equipment, and maintaining databases.
Strong knowledge of SCADA/ADMS/EMS systems (OSI preferred).
Knowledge of CYME, ASPEN, Hexagon GIS, and OMS programs.
Knowledge of Python and C programing languages.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Good interpersonal skills with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Good team player and ability to prioritize assignments to meet commitments.
Ability to work on projects with minimum supervision.
Ability to authenticate own work and QA others' work.
