The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Energy Management Coordinator, to join our North Atlantic Energy Team in Sudbury.

The position will provide support to the North Atlantic Energy Manager in the implementation of the long-term Energy Management Plan (EnMP). The role is accountable to develop the action plan and schedule to implement the EnMP, and to recommend corrective actions based on monitoring the conditions that could adversely affect the effective implementation of the EnMP. The Energy Coordinator provides support to the Energy Manager and Strategic Procurement regarding the purchase of Electricity /Natural Gas for North Atlantic Operations as a delegated area of responsibility.

Accountabilities will include:

  • Assist the Energy Manager in providing the following services:
  • Encourage energy accountability and authority throughout the operations.
  • Provide accounting with appropriate plant electricity billing information, including third party embedded loads and users of the company-owned power transmission/distribution system.
  • Incorporate energy performance into our procurement and engineering standards and procedures.
  • Provide both general and specific training to meet individual requirements related to the company\'s energy use and performance.
  • Include energy performance in employee Annual Incentive Plan goals and objectives, where appropriate
  • Conduct periodic Plant energy surveys to evaluate energy performance and to identify energy improvement opportunities, including consideration of energy implications of new projects in project planning, help plants with application and audit processes for conservational funded programs.
  • Develop objectives for prevention, control, and mitigation of energy use that include targets for reducing energy consumption.
  • Create and maintain capital investment strategy related to energy improvement.
  • Accountabilities related to procurement of purchased electricity - Ontario Operations:
  • Maintain contacts with Hydro One and the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) to ensure the company fulfills its contractual requirements related to purchased electricity use for Ontario Operations, including (but not limited to) demand forecasting, periodic review of prudential support, identification, and maintenance of company contacts, facilitate review and processing of monthly invoices.
  • Review annual purchased electricity budget and provide monthly cost forecast to treasury.
  • Accountabilities related to procurement of purchased electricity.
  • Provide procurement support to Strategic Procurement as Delegated Area for the supply of electricity for North Atlantic Operations.
About You

Education:
  • Engineering or Financial Degree or relevant College diploma in a technician or technologist discipline preferred.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation preferred or will need to be obtained within 12 months of employment.
  • Professional Engineering (P Eng.) designation an asset.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a similar role / field
  • Strong background in commercial, institutional or industrial energy use and management
  • Experience providing project leadership in a team environment.
  • Demonstration of ability to accurately report and manage large amount of data.
