We are seeking to fill an Energy Engineer position. The position will be located at our Scarborough location at 333 Progress. Energy Engineer This role reports to the Director Continuous Improvement & Quality and works to help support the Corporate Energy Manager. Main responsibilities cover all Atlantic business & operational units. The Energy Engineer is responsible for auditing, investigating, and monitoring the energy use & strives to improve energy efficiency throughout the entire box and paper manufacturing process. They will be key in Investigating novel solutions using their engineering background to help reduce and optimize our energy usage. Responsibilities:
Develop and investigate energy-saving opportunity projects including both capital improvement projects and operational and maintenance programs.
Meeting on a regular basis with production teams to help brainstorm and employ new energy conservation projects. This will be done at the paper mills, box plants and support facilities.
Interface with Finance to create and distribute a monthly energy report to key stake holders to help use our energy resources more effectively. Including a concise executive summary of the month to key management
Investigate and recommend medium to smaller energy-saving projects, including the planning, budgeting, and scheduling for the design, installation, commissioning, and verification of energy efficiency projects.
Energy process monitoring and troubleshooting at key facilities to better understand power quality and impacts on the production process to help justify capital projects
Develop and implement a long-term sustainable energy plan for all Atlantic and satellite facilities, including solar, biogas burning and sludge disposal incineration.
Support our Global Adjustment program championed by the Corporate Energy Manager including potential manufacturing plant pauses to minimize yearly energy costs.
Champion our continuous improvements efforts in regards to LED lighting at all facilities, implementing rate of return and incentives for key LED projects. Auditing current facilities and scoping out new projects to optimize energy usage and cost.
Keep up to date with evolving and new technologies relevant to the industry and keep up to date with energy incentive programs through utility providers
Meet regularly with utility representative to investigate novel and evolving strategies to increase our energy use efficiency.
Complete Energy Reports and project updates with savings measured and reflected through utility bills and other tracking capabilities implemented.
This role requires 50-75% local travel between different business units and locations for projects, discussions and engaging leadership at executive level. Some travel outside Ontario will be required as the applicant develops in their role.
Requirements:
Strong process engineering skills
Statistical Leadership, use data to drive process improvement
Documentation (technical writing), machine specification, SOP guides, and validation results
Working knowledge of power distribution, natural gas optimization, and other key energy source utilization
Qualifications:
Engineering Degree, preferably in chemical or mechanical engineering
2-4 years experience in an industrial environment, with preference for this experience to be in the corrugated or paper making industry
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously and with little direction in a high volume, fast paced environment
Leadership skills, organize and lead small groups of cross functional team members
Preference will be given to candidates with corrugated or pulp and paper experience, particularly in the energy field, however experience in any process industry will be an asset.
