The Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society (VAFCS) is a non-profit charitable organization serving the Urban Aboriginal community with a mandate to provide programs and services that will contribute to the cultural, educational, social, economic, and recreational development of Urban Aboriginal people.

VAFCS is seeking an

Employment Coordinator

for full time 37.50 hours per week. The successful candidate will collaborate with community-based instructors to support learners' pathways and provide opportunity for them to engage in training sessions.

The Employment Coordinator will be responsible for the following:

Ensuring successful recruitment, intake and support is in place for students Collaborate with training centers and industry professionals to ensure participants receive well-rounded communication, professional and life skills Provide high quality oversight of program activities while prioritizing participant safety Provide meaningful ways for participants to engage with peer group and facilitators Ensure program has adopted life skills training that will enhance their ability to live independently Encourage participants to build their confidence so they are empowered to apply to job positions after completing the program Creating opportunities for community partnerships to actively engage with the participants Oversee program's budget and financial structure for reporting Report on the programs successes, challenges and overall efficiency Provide weekly updates on participants' progress throughout the program

Specific areas that may be included in the program are:

Professional and Interviewing skills

Building Services Worker Program

First Aid

Driver's License Certification

WHIMIS

Culture & Traditional Medicines

Non-Violent Communication Techniques

This position is accountable to the Program Director and is an employment-driven initiative, aimed to train and employ Aboriginal individuals. Priority will be given to applicants with knowledge about Indigenous communities and resources within Metro Vancouver to best prepare participants to become job ready once they have completed the program.

Preferred Abilities and Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in education, administration or a related field A minimum of 2 years of experience as facilitator, educator, career counselling, or administrator in a related field. Employment Counsellor or Advising (preferred) Experience working with Indigenous persons and a familiarity surrounding Indigenous culture. Skilled communicator with excellent interpersonal skills Ability to effectively manage finances and budgets Experience coordinating training or educational programs. Efficient time management and decision making skills Valid Class 5 Driver's License and access to transportation
