Program Overview - Workforce Development
This position reports to the Manager, Workforce Development, Youth. The incumbent delivers in-person and remote case management, employment counselling and job development activities to prepare clients for employment opportunities in specific sectors, roles and occupations.
The ECC, Youth will work in partnership with WoodGreen's Youth Teams to provide employment support to both in-school and out-of-school youth, helping them secure summer, part-time, and full-time jobs. The ECC, Youth will also plan and deliver career exploration activities to broaden youth awareness of career options and expand their access to networks and mentorship opportunities They will assist the client in preparing for their successful job search. As needed, they will locate employers and positions and perform job development or job matching activities.
The Employment Case Counsellor, Youth will work primarily with youth with barriers to employment and/or who are part of a traditionally under-represented group within the labour market. The ECC will be the client's advocate. The ECC will assist in resolving client problems and eliminating barriers to successful participation in a program and/or employment.
What You Will Do

  • Works collaboratively with youth team in a drop-in and program settings to support youth with employment counselling.
  • Develops, coordinates and facilitates information sessions and workshops on employment related topics.
  • Coordinates events to support the mentorship and networking needs of youth.
  • Conducts in person (as possible), online, social media and phone based outreach activities to attract and screen clients for programs and services. Conduct program information sessions and performs intake activities.
  • Performs case management duties, which include assessment, goal setting and the development of action plans with clients, ongoing intervention, re-assessment, case termination, and follow up.
  • Assessment duties to include administering a range of assessment tests including skills-based, occupational and educational tests and using results to help clients explore options and make decisions about training and employment opportunities.
  • Supports clients in the use of an online platform to explore job opportunities.
  • Locates and contacts potential employers and finds job opportunities for clients.
  • Provides assistance to participants as they manage their life situation (eg. direct those in need to the appropriate service: housing, medical, child care, and emotional wellness issues).
  • Identifies barriers to learning and/or employment and refers participants to the appropriate source of support.
  • Responds to emergencies and provides crisis intervention in addition to maintaining a caseload.
  • Maintains detailed notes of client interaction. Enters and manages data in online client records and collects statistical data according to Program and Unit policies.
  • Liaises with community agencies and attends meetings.
  • Works with other WoodGreen staff in order to provide interdisciplinary support to participants.
  • Ensures the anti-racism objectives and community development principles of the organization are achieved within the program.
What You Bring to the Team
Education:
  • Minimum undergraduate degree in Social Services or a related field(s).
Experience:
  • One to three years experience delivering employment related services, ideally involving employment counselling, case management, job development, training, and assessment.
  • Significant lived experience, preferably in multiple occupations and work settings, that can be shared to inspire and teach clients successful life strategies and resilience.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, ideally job seekers with multiple barriers
  • Track record of successfully placing clients in employment.

  • Strong digital literacy skills, including internet research skills particularly in the areas of online job search, online learning, building an online presence and optimizing the use of LinkedIn.
  • Knowledge and skills in the use of social resources.
  • Knowledge of community development, and experience of job development.
  • Organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team setting.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet targets.
  • Knowledge and sensitivity to issues of a culturally diverse clientele.
  • Able to travel to employer work sites to support client work placements and to support mentoring events.
