NextStar Energy (NSE) is an innovative joint venture company between LG and Stellantis. It will be Canada's first large-scale lithium-ion battery production plant when it begins production at the Twin Oaks site in Windsor, Ontario. The manufacturing facility will have an annual targeted production capacity in excess of 49 gigawatt hours and will create an estimated 2,500 new jobs in Windsor and the surrounding areas.

The Emergency Response & Prevention Specialist is responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive emergency response and fire prevention programs to ensure the safety of employees, visitors, and property. This role ensures compliance with all relevant fire codes, safety regulations, and emergency preparedness standards while developing and delivering training, conducting inspections, and responding to incidents.

Responsibilities:



Develop, implement, and maintain emergency response plans, procedures, and fire prevention programs. Lead emergency drills (fire, evacuation, hazardous material spills, etc.) and evaluate outcomes for continuous improvement. Conduct fire risk assessments and inspections of facilities, equipment, and systems to identify hazards and ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and standards. Recommend and oversee the installation, maintenance, and inspection of fire detection, suppression, and alarm systems. Act as incident commander or support emergency response teams during actual emergencies. Provide training to employees and Fire Prevention Inspectors on emergency procedures, fire extinguisher use, evacuation protocols, and first response measures. Liaise with local fire departments, emergency services, and regulatory bodies as required. Maintain accurate records of inspections, incident reports, drills, and fire safety audits. Participate in investigations of fire-related incidents or near-misses and support root cause analysis and corrective actions. Other responsibilities as requested by Health & Safety Manager.

Minimum Requirements:



Post-secondary education in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field. Certification in Fire Prevention or Emergency Response (e.g., NFPA, NFPA 1001, Incident Command System (ICS), or equivalent). 5+ years of experience in emergency response and/or fire prevention in an industrial, institutional, or commercial setting. Strong knowledge of fire codes, building codes, and emergency management practices. Proven experience developing and implementing emergency response plans and fire safety programs, including drills and training initiatives. Strong background in conducting fire risk assessments and safety inspections in compliance with local, provincial, and federal fire codes and regulations. Direct involvement in emergency incident response and command, including coordination with first responders and internal emergency teams. Proficient in Microsoft Office and incident reporting software.

Preferred Requirements:



Firefighter or Fire Prevention background with relevant certification Experience in high-risk or industrial environments (e.g., oil & gas, manufacturing, chemical plants). Experience dealing with chemical spill response and prevention. Familiarity with the Incident Command System (ICS) or National Incident Management System (NIMS). Strong communication and training delivery skills, especially for safety and emergency procedures. First Aid, CPR, and AED certification, with hands-on response experience. Ability to remain calm and act decisively under pressure.
