About the Opportunity

Reporting to a Manager, Emergency Preparedness, and working as a part of the Eastern zone and other programs and departments; the Emergency Preparedness Advisor is responsible for coordinating activities within the designated zone related to prevention and mitigation, planning, response and recovery of events and incidents.

The advisor works under the authority of the manager and is responsible for participating in the development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of all components of a comprehensive and provincially integrated emergency preparedness plan. The advisor is committed to achieving the best outcomes in healthcare program and service delivery, safe care and continuous improvement to meet or exceed all accreditation requirements and legislative requirements.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Post-secondary degree in Emergency Management or relevant combination of continuing education, training and progressive emergency management and/or healthcare experience.
  • Continuing education in emergency management.
  • Three years recent and related experience preferred.
  • Healthcare experience preferred
  • Thorough knowledge and a demonstrated understanding of processes and procedures for interacting with professional leadership teams, as well as the ability to lead with confidence, patience and integrity, during emergencies.
  • Good project management skills
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the exercising of emergency response, recovery and business resumption procedures
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills with an ability to deal with conflicting demands and interruptions
  • Knowledge in the use of Windows, Microsoft Office products, internet and electronic mail
  • Experience engaging, mentoring and empowering teams and stakeholders in a collaborative, participatory manner
  • Experience related to Business Continuity Planning will be considered an asset
  • Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or Associate Emergency Manager (AEM); commitment to complete the designation within a specified time from hire date
  • Valid NS Drivers License required, travel throughout province required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred

Hours

Permanent, Full-time position, 75 hrs bi-weekly

Compensation and Incentives

$31.08 - $38.85 hourly
