Emergency Medicine Physicians - Edmonton Zone

Position Description:

Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health, in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, are inviting applications from Emergency Physicians to join the Department of Emergency Medicine in the Edmonton Zone.

The Edmonton zone is comprised of 12 emergency departments (EDs), and includes a mix of stand-alone EDs, community hospitals and level I trauma centres. These tertiary sites provide high acuity emergency services, including care of trauma and transplant patients, and have a variety of specialist consultation services. The Edmonton Zone is a major referral centre for patients from Northern Alberta, Northern British Columbia and the Northwest Territories.

There are approximately 300 emergency physicians who work within the Edmonton Zone, and is comprised of specialty trained emergency physicians and family physicians with emergency medicine training. Depending on the site, family physicians with additional emergency medicine training or experience provide coverage to the EDs in addition to community practice. Emergency Physicians work approximately 12-14 shifts per month and shifts are typically 8-10h day, evening, or night shifts with a mix of weekday and weekend coverage.

Edmonton Zone hospitals are affiliated with the University of Alberta, and serve as important training facilities for residents and students. The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry has been internationally recognized as among the world\'s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada\'s premier health-education institutions. Individuals interested in education of trainees are encouraged to apply for Clinical Academic Colleague appointments in the Academic Department of Emergency Medicine.

Remuneration for these positions is fee-for-service billings. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

Qualifications:

Successful applicants will have or be eligible for certification in Emergency Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada or the Canadian College of Family Physicians and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Equivalent certification will also be considered. We are particularly interested in those who have superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to teamwork and peer relationships. The successful candidate should be committed to fulfilling clinical and non-clinical duties as a representative of the Department of Emergency Medicine.
