Elementary School Office Assistant

Broadview Public School

Position Status: 100% Regular, works 10 months per year

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday,8:30 am - 4:30 pm; 35 hours per week

Salary Rate: $19.16 to $24.48 per hour

Effective: August 28, 2023

Specific Assignment: Aspen (all aspects, including report cards and building class lists), Attendance, Front Desk, Working with Google Applications, such as Sheets.

Under the direction of the Elementary School Office Administrator, the Elementary School Office Assistant assists staff, students, and the public; ensures the safety and well-being of students; supports the school office (answering phones, correspondence); maintains student and staff information (recording, monitoring, and tracking systems); assists with financial accounts; and performs other related duties to support the school office.

Qualifications

Completion of a Secondary School Diploma, and 1 to 2 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Continuous upgrading of computer skills is required.

Familiarity with relevant legislation including the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act; The Immunization of School Pupils Act, and the Ministry of Ontario Student Record (OSR) Guidelines.

Familiarity with Board and school policies and procedures including Board Admissions-Enrolment Guidelines, Board Purchasing Manual;

Proficient in word-processing, databases, accounting software, spreadsheet, desktop publishing, electronic mail, and integrated and other software applications; Ability to operate standard office equipment and administer public address system;

Experience working with google applications, (ie. docs/sheets/forms, email, calendars, online meetings)

Organizational and time-management skills are required to prioritize work.

Writing skills are required to prepare correspondence and/or reports.

Interpersonal and communication skills are required to exchange and clarify information, and to understand and respond to inquiries using tact, diplomacy and discretion when dealing with the public, staff and students.

Accounting skills to maintain the budget required (if applicable to the assignment)

First Aid certification and ability to administer first aid.

Applications will be considered in accordance with the ESP Collective Agreement, in the following order:

1. First consideration is given to Regular full-time and Regular part-time employees within ESP bargaining unit. You must apply to the Internal Posting.

2. Term and casual employees within ESP bargaining unit are given 2nd consideration. You must apply to the posting marked as \'external\'.

3. External applicants (including Board employees that do not belong to this bargaining unit) will be considered only if applications from 1 & 2 have been exhausted.

If you are a Regular part-time ESP member and also on the ESP Casual List, you will see both postings. However, you must apply to the "Internal" Job posting in order to be given 1st consideration.
