The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) is a non-profit corporation that brings together the province\'s most sophisticated law enforcement resources to investigate serious and organized crime. ALERT is comprised of personnel from municipal police agencies, RCMP, and civilian staff that work together on elite teams throughout Alberta focusing on organized crime, human trafficking, auto crimes, and child exploitation. Under the direction of ALERT\xe2\x80\x99s Technology and Investigative Support Director, the Technical Investigations Unit (TIU) was established in 2020 to support and enhance ALERT investigations by providing research, subject matter experts, installers, technicians, and custodians of high-value / high-tech software, hardware and surveillance assets. ALERT TIU is looking to hire one (1) full-time, permanent Electronic Surveillance Civilian Technician (Edmonton office). This position reports directly to the ALERT TIU Sergeant and indirectly to the ALERT Technology and Investigative Support Director. The salary range for this position is $98,592 \xe2\x80\x93 $110,968 per annum. The work arrangement for this position is in-person, on-site (not hybrid or remote). RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES: The Electronic Surveillance Technician (Edmonton) will report to and work closely with the Sergeant (Supervisor) of ALERT TIU along with Regional TIU, to ensure the technical and electronic surveillance needs of ALERT investigators are achieved. Multifaceted covert installations, in-province travel, outdoor labor (in all environmental conditions), impromptu shift adjustments/overtime, and court attendance/testimony will be required in the course of regular duties. Primary Responsibilities Include: \xc2\xb7 Support, service, operate, and maintain covert software, hardware and surveillance assets, 3D printers, and other TIU equipment/tools/supplies; \xc2\xb7 Conduct vehicle and/or area reconnaissance in preparation of covert deployments; \xc2\xb7 Design and construct various props to mount and conceal covert equipment; \xc2\xb7 Research, evaluate, and validate procurement of various covert equipment; \xc2\xb7 Provide ongoing operational and technical support to ALERT personnel; \xc2\xb7 Prepare, distribute, and maintain equipment operational guides to assist investigators with daily operations; \xc2\xb7 Review and adapt to relevant and emerging electronic surveillance case law; \xc2\xb7 Prepare documentation for file disclosure and provide subject matter expert court testimony as needed; \xc2\xb7 Fulfill technical requisites (training and field experience) to maintain membership with applicable technical investigator associations (i.e. NATIA). Secondary Responsibilities Include: \xc2\xb7 Assist partner police agencies with electronic surveillance needs when inhouse resources and/or equipment are unavailable; \xc2\xb7 Complete mandatory and/or discretionary technical training as needed; \xc2\xb7 Assist with development and training of ALERT investigators on various technical equipment; \xc2\xb7 Prepare and maintain all equipment inventory, procurement, and deployment logs; \xc2\xb7 Assist TIU supervisor with development and maintenance of TIU forms, reports, manuals, and guides; \xc2\xb7 Assist TIU supervisor with preparation of weekly, quarterly, and annual performance reports for ALERT Corporate. \xc2\xb7 Other duties as assigned. DESIRED SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES: The following qualifications have been identified for this position: \xc2\xb7 Completion of NATIA Certified Technical Investigators (CTI) course or equivalent is required; \xc2\xb7 Minimum three (3) years of related work experience is required; \xc2\xb7 Security clearance with the RCMP is required; \xc2\xb7 Class 5 Alberta Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License with clean driving record is required; \xc2\xb7 Proven ability to multi-task and work in high stress environment is required; \xc2\xb7 Accommodating schedule and ability to adjust shifts / work overtime (based on emergent investigative needs) along with occasional Alberta wide travel is required; \xc2\xb7 Demonstrated ability to foster a positive work environment on a team and work collaboratively with others to achieve common goals is required; \xc2\xb7 Previous law enforcement experience is an asset; \xc2\xb7 Previous drug and/or organized crime experience is an asset; \xc2\xb7 Previous wireroom (Part VI) experience is an asset; \xc2\xb7 Previous covert surveillance (and counter surveillance) experience is an asset; \xc2\xb7 Previous undercover experience is an asset; \xc2\xb7 Previous experience working multi-jurisdictional investigations with partner police agencies is an asset; \xc2\xb7 Completion of Advanced Surveillance course is an asset; \xc2\xb7 Completion of Expert Witness Testimony course is an asset; \xc2\xb7 Completion of Search Warrant Drafting course is an asset; \xc2\xb7 Certifications in electronics, electrical, and/or mechanical are assets; \xc2\xb7 Demonstrated proficiency in time management / organization and ability to work with minimum supervision is an asset; \xc2\xb7 Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, tactfully and diplomatically, both written and verbally is an asset; \xc2\xb7 Demonstrated ability to communicate technical details to a wide variety of audiences with varying technical knowledge is an asset.
