Purpose
Reporting to the Architectural & Design Program Manager, the primary role of the Electrician & Capital Project Supervisor is to perform electrical work and assist with the execution of the capital asset plan for the County Housing department.
Responsibilities
Receives daily work orders and organizes work in order to complete in an expeditious manner, including determining the necessary materials and equipment.
Utilizes a variety of tools/equipment and is responsible for their maintenance.
Performs skilled tasks in installation, maintenance, preventative maintenance, trouble shooting and repair of interior and exterior wiring systems, switching equipment, relays, motors, lights and other electrical and electronic systems and equipment for assigned facilities.
Lays out, assembles, installs, repairs, maintains, connects and tests electrical/electronic systems/equipment
Oversee capital projects for the County Housing Department, and
Assists with the development of capital and operating budget
Complete annual reports regarding facility fuel consumptions, energy costs, and inventory management.
Conform to the Continuous Safety Services Program (CSS) program requirements for County owned Housing buildings
Working Conditions
Normal work is thirty-five (35) hours per week. Flexibility and willingness to work irregular hours on evenings or weekends will be required, as necessary. Work may be performed on or off-site, in conjunction with special events, programs, promotions or other related contingencies.
This position is scheduled for on-call rotation throughout the calendar year. Extensive travel throughout the County's Housing portfolio is required.

Knowledge and Skill
Possess a secondary school diploma.
Must possess and be able to maintain a current Certificate of Qualification as an Electrician in accordance with the regulations enforced in the Province of Ontario. (Ont. Reg. 32, Class 309A (Electrical).
Considerable experience in a wide range of electrical systems including maintenance, preventative maintenance, trouble shooting and repair of interior and exterior wiring systems, transformers, switching equipment, relays, motors, lights and other electrical and electronic systems and equipment.
Must possess or be in the process of obtaining and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class "G" Driver's License.
Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to operate or utilize the tools, equipment, materials and techniques necessary for the position.
Broad knowledge in the building trades, with three years' experience in property management, specializing in commercial/industrial or institutional environment.
Extensive knowledge of the theory and practice of electricity and good working knowledge up to 600-volt equipment and circuits, including polyphase circuits.
Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, building and electrical codes, and all regulations that apply to this work.
The successful candidate shall possess excellent risk assessment skills to ensure health and safety practices are followed when visiting constructions sites or tenants in their homes.
Ability to perform maintenance and repair work relating but not limited to electrical/electronic components of heating, cooling, lighting and ventilation systems.
Ability to read plans and make sketches.
Ability to maintain accurate records and to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex systems.
Ability to provide work direction and training to others.
Must possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with public, staff, and external agencies/service providers.
Must have computer skills or agree to be trained and be able to apply the needed skills.
Ability to prepare estimates and reports for budgeting and capital asset management.
Familiarity with techniques for interacting with individuals from various socio- economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, in person and over the phone
Physically capable of meeting the demands of the position.
Impact of Error
Improper use of machinery, tools, and equipment may result in expensive damage. Should buildings and property not be kept safe, there is risk of physical injury and potential liability. Poor maintenance creates an unfavorable public image for the County. Inadequate capital planning can result in budget fluctuations that impact the tax levy.
There is risk of statutory liability due to a neglect of duties concerning the operation of the water system and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
