We are currently hiring an Electrical Supervisor to join the team at our Underground Salt Mine in Goderich, Ontario.



Compass Minerals' Goderich Salt Mine, located 1,800 feet under Lake Huron, is the largest underground salt mine in the world. The mine is as deep as the CN Tower in Toronto is tall. The rock salt produced at the mine is used to keep citizens in North America safe as they travel through winter snow and ice. The salt is shipped to hundreds of communities around the Great Lakes and along the St. Lawrence Seaway. Some of the salt is trucked to the Compass Minerals plant less than 4 kilometers away, to be packaged for distribution and sale at retailers in North America. The salt is also sold in bulk to manufacturers that make plastics, detergents, disinfectants and other important products. Goderich is named Canada's Prettiest Town and is best known for its stunning sunsets. Goderich is a lakeside community of 8,000 people located approximately 1.5 hours from London and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario.


How will you contribute to the team?




This position directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in electrical repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment at the Goderich Mine. This position has the responsibility to ensure safe work practices, quality standards, and procedures are followed as well as ensuring high productivity from this department. This position ensures effective electrical maintenance scheduling and employee development. Supervise, develop the skills and direct/ delegate activities of the electrical crew. Complete pre-shift and post-shift communication to relay critical information to the relieving supervisor. Each Electrician under their charge, has a wide range of skills and experience, effective supervision is vital to the success of the maintenance plan, execution of critical repairs and ultimately the reliability of the site. Assess ongoing electrical maintenance projects and job orders and determines work priorities Ensure safe working conditions and safe work procedures are understood and followed by crew Communicate equipment and job order status to appropriate people and departments Understand, present and enforce policies regarding safe work practices, production methods, quality standards, and preventative maintenance. Conduct monthly safety meetings, weekly tool box talks, procedures and standards for work and safety. Conduct unionized worker performance appraisals. Troubleshoot equipment problems throughout areas of responsibility, determine maintenance needs, schedule repairs and oversee progress of same. Have input into developing maintenance budget. Evaluate productivity and other performance measures of employees and recommend possible improvements to work processes. Initiate work or work orders, required to maintain equipment in proper operating condition. To foster an environment of continuous improvement, complete projects that will strengthen the business. Optimize the preventive maintenance program Work with Operators and other department Supervisors to make equipment modifications and to schedule equipment downtime for PM's. Audit the PM's and repairs to ensure it meets maintenance standards and expectations holding the tradespeople responsible for their performance Must have the ability to respond to the demands of a 24/7 year-round operation. Perform other related duties as required.



What should you bring to the role?



Certified 309A or 442A license with Red Seal endorsement Minimum of 4 years of experience, with 2 years of supervisory experience, plus experience in functions managed. Possess a high degree of technical skills in the electrical and process instrumentation fields Superior judgment and leadership ability to successfully manage a crew Supervisory and project planning experience. Hoist knowledge would be an asset. Experienced in Microsoft Office programs. Must have extensive work experience on most types of the following equipment and circuits:

Electrical:

+ Voltages ranging from 24-volts to 27.6KV AC.
+ Lighting systems consisting of panel boards, branch circuits and photo cell switching for incandescent, high pressure sodium, mercury vapor, fluorescent, metal halide and quartz lighting to name a few.
+ Electrical heating systems consisting of 6 KW, 3 phase 600 VAC immersion heaters and various smaller 240/120vac heating systems. These systems include temperature controls, high limit cut-outs, breakers, fuses, panel boards, contactors, control stations, transformers, feeders and branch circuits.
+ Motors and motor controls ranging in size from single phase fractional horsepower to 3 phase 4160vac including breakers, starters, contactors, relays, overloads and PLC control ladders and code.
+ Controls and power of high voltage production equipment including 12500 KVA 3 phase 27600 VAC Delta primary to 13800 VAC Wye secondary 60 HZ transformers, primary service drops, high line fusing, feeders, switchgear, motor control centers, motor power and control circuits, 1200KW generators @ 4160VAC etc.

Instrumentation:

+ Magnetic flow tubes/flow meters.
+ Scales: weigh bridge.
+ Pressure transmitters.
+ Level transmitters.
