Job Description



Reporting to the Lead Electrical Engineer, the Electrical Engineer\xe2\x80\x99s primary role is to work within the multi-disciplinary engineering team to architect and design battery management systems for energy storage systems. The energy storage systems\xe2\x80\x99 power levels range from 100\xe2\x80\x99s of kW to 10\xe2\x80\x99s of MW. Responsibilities include:


  • Design digital and analog electronic circuits for various Corvus Battery Management System components including schematic capture, board layout and build files
  • Verification of new circuit board designs, including trouble shooting and rework, build and test prototype systems, develop verification plans, and document results
  • Design the electrical interfaces of the battery packs to external equipment; ensure the designs comply with all relevant electrical codes and standards, EMC
  • Participate in DFMEAs on the battery system designs
  • Work with mechanical and software design teams to fulfill design functional and packaging requirements
  • Support design transfer to production, supplier approval support (first article inspection)
  • Support test engineering with EMC and other tests as required
  • Support the operations department with finding and qualifying alternate components as required
  • Support customer facing groups with technical requests as required
  • Occasional travel to customer sites to discuss technical aspect of products and/or support commissioning or service activities
  • Comply with Corvus procedures for configuration management and product data management (engineering change orders, revision management, etc.)


Skills and Experience:
  • Engineering degree (BASc or MASc) with 4+ years relevant experience
  • Experience in digital (microprocessor with peripheral interfaces) and mixed signal hardware design (A/D and high voltage isolation implementation, signal conditioning, noise immunity, multi-cell battery management)
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB design using Altium Designer
  • Experience with the hardware design implementation of various communication protocols USB, I2C, RS232/485 Ethernet, Modbus
  • Experience with wireless communication designs (Bluetooth, WiFi, Zigbee) an asset
  • Hands on experience building and reworking circuit boards, both through hole and surface mount (prototype-quality only)
  • SPICE simulation experience is an asset
  • Some software design experience is an asset
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Strong relationship/interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
