• Woodbine Converter Station (near Sydney, NS)

Emera Newfoundland & Labrador (ENL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Emera Inc. (EMA-TSX), operates the Maritime Link, an integrated set of transmission assets xe2x80x8bthat deliver renewable electricity from Muskrat Falls in Labrador through Newfoundland to Nova Scotia. Operational since January 2018, the Maritime Link delivers reliable, clean electricity to Nova Scotians and contributes to energy sharing and grid reliability in Atlantic Canada while also helping achieve provincial and national clean energy targets.
With office and site locations in Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland & Labrador, the 500-megawatt HVdc Maritime Link includes switchyards, two converter stations, 400km of overhead transmission lines, two transition compounds, two grounding sites and two 170km submarine cables.

We are currently looking for an HVdc Engineer to join our team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Senior Electrical Engineer you will be a key member of the team contributing to the achievement of ENLs reliability and performance objectives. The successful candidate joins us at a time where a number of technology projects are on the horizon, and when inspection and maintenance strategies for the Maritime Link are evolving. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills, as well as to drive improvements and efficiencies across our assets.
Key elements of this role include:

• Supporting of the site operations team (in-person and remote) in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland & Labrador and participating in on-call support including troubleshooting, root cause analysis and related reports. Interfacing with stakeholders and communicating lessons learned as required.
• Contributing to the ongoing optimization of the HVdc Control and Protection system while managing changes effectively.
• Calculating and reporting on Maritime Link Availability and Loss Factors as well as other reporting obligations.
• Participating in shutdown planning and other planning functions as required, including collaboration with the System Operators in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland & Labrador.
• Supporting the development and implementation of operation and capital initiatives, such as technology and reliability projects.
• Supervising contractors working on assigned projects and tasks.
• Audit maintenance practices to ensure compliance with asset maintenance plans
• Maintaining control over Maritime Link documents and ensure updates are completed as required
• Keeping up to date with industry development, standards, regulations, codes
• Fully participating and engaging in ENLs safety and environment programs and supporting ongoing initiatives such as Strategic Asset Management and Continuous Improvement.

What skills will make you successful?
As the ideal candidate you recognize yourself in most of the following qualifications, competencies and skills:

• Possess a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and are a registered member or eligible for membership with Engineers Nova Scotia and The Professional Engineers and Geoscientists Newfoundland and Labrador.
• Minimum of three years experience with a technical background in protection and control engineering and/or a strong ability to understand and synthesize technical information.
• You are a self-starter with excellent organizational and analytical skills who can function effectively in a team environment.
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to personal development are required.
• Valid Drivers License, and a willingness to provide after-hours consultation and emergency power restoration work.
• Regular travel between Maritime Link facilities and offices.
