DEI's goal is to hire an electrical designer/technician that has graduated from an accredited university engineering program or a college level electrical, architectural, or building-focused technology program. to begin their career in the building services consulting industry. Qualifications
This position is intended for an individual that has graduated from an accredited university engineering program or a college level electrical, architectural, or building-focused technology program. Prior co-op / job experience at an engineering consulting firm is considered an asset. All candidates should bring excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work effectively in a team environment. Further qualifications for this role include:
Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadline and deliverable dates while working on a number of ongoing projects.
Experience with AutoCAD and the ability to set up and produce electrical design drawings using detailed markups from supervisor in a fast-paced environment while adhering to company standards.
Ability to organize project information provided by supervisor and peers via email and notes.
Experience with standard computer software such as the Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, One Note).
Working knowledge and experience using Revit is considered an asset.
Experience with lighting design software such as AGI32 is considered an asset.
Ability to think both critically and analytically while applying problem solving and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.
High levels of attention to detail, retention of design approaches, and ability to draw on past experiences and apply to current situations.
Role Overview
As an Electrical Designer/Technician, your role will include working on a variety of electrical design project under the mentorship of senior electrical team members. The position focuses on developing your knowledge of electrical design document production to company standards, electrical design knowledge within the building service industry, and basic coordination of electrical elements with other disciplines. An overview of responsibilities is listed below.
Assist senior staff to develop electrical systems design drawings for a variety of projects, including but not limited to site lighting and servicing, life safety systems, lighting, lighting controls, building power distribution, and drawing coordination with other disciplines.
Coordination of electrical elements with various disciplines, i.e. mechanical equipment, device locations, etc.
Assist senior staff in performing and completing design calculations as required for various systems including electrical load calculations, lighting designs, etc., by providing building areas, ceiling types, fixture counts, etc. from AutoCAD plans.
Be responsible for drafting (AutoCAD) or modeling (Revit) electrical systems for projects with redline markups under the supervision of senior staff.
Be responsible for plotting and presentation of design drawings.
Be responsible for design document updates and reissuance of drawings and sketches to assist senior staff for issuing site instructions, change notices and addenda throughout the construction portion of a project.
Gain experience, understanding, and knowledge of electrical systems design, applicable Codes, and other standards.
Projects may include working on residential (low and high-rise), educational projects (public and private schools, post-secondary institutions), commercial projects (box stores, base buildings, etc.), institutional projects (public sector facilities), industrial facilities, retirement / long term care facilities, and a variety of other projects. This is an in-office position.
