Scope of Position:
This role is responsible for the design, documentation and testing of PCBA's and higher-level assemblies used in Battery Management and Battery Assembly systems for industrial, medical, motive and military applications. The individual must ensure BMS products are developed to meet schedule, cost and performance targets while interfacing with other departments such as Layout Design, Test & Qualification Engineering, and Operations/Production teams, in addition to end customer interactions.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
Project-level ownership of BMS board and battery assembly system designs
Participate in design reviews to ensure design integrity and specification compliance as well as provide leadership to other designers
Generate electrical design, schematics, and bill of materials at PCBA and system level while overseeing PCB layout and mechanical design activities
Document all design calculations and simulations to comply with the development processes
Provide recommendations based on research and technical analysis for the hardware and firmware to be used for the product road map
Support testing hardware with significant firmware dependencies
Specify test requirements for product validation, qualification and mass production
Support the sales team with concept drawings and other data required for quotes
Provide timely and efficient technical support to internal and external customers throughout the entire product life cycle
Core Competencies:
Knowledge of battery system software functions is an asset.
Knowledge of communication protocols and implementation (CAN, I2C, SMBus, etc.).
Awareness of functional safety standards (ISO26262, UL1998, IEC60508 or similar).
Proficiency with schematic capture software particularly Altium.
Well-versed with electrical design simulation tools.
Solid understanding of product development cycle and methodologies (DFM, EMC design, etc.).
Appreciation of and rigorous compliance with design control procedures.

Qualifications & Experience:
3-5 years minimum experience in power electronics, battery systems and/or embedded designs.
Familiarity with BMS IC's and controllers, microprocessors and power semiconductors.
Demonstrated familiarity in designing electronic products to withstand stresses specified by industry standards.
Experience with high-speed communication protocols and interfaces (such as CAN/CANOpen/J1939, SPI, I2C/SMBus, USB, RS-232, Ethernet and Bluetooth)
Experience with battery management and assembly systems (up to 500v/50kWh) for industrial, military or mild hybrid electric vehicle (mHEV) applications is an asset.
Experience in testing embedded systems with various microprocessors.
Education:
Bachelor's or advanced degree in electrical or electronics engineering or related field
