Job Title: Educational Developer (Other Academic) Unit: The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning Position Number: 29575 The Unit The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (The Centre) is a faculty development unit that works in collaboration with faculty and graduate students to provide leadership, expertise, and support in fulfilling the teaching and learning mission of the University of Manitoba. The Centre contributes to the practice and scholarship of teaching through guidance, collaborative problem-solving, and research with respect to teaching and learning effectiveness, curriculum planning, and institutional policies and infrastructure to optimize the learning and teaching experiences of students and faculty. The Position This position will support the Programs and Development and Consultation teams in the broad work of faculty development across the campus. As the Centre continues to take on new initiatives and support existing programming, in support of teaching and learning, it highlights the need for additional staff with specialized expertise and ability to provide pedagogical support in areas such as teaching consultations, curriculum development and delivery, workshop facilitation, and other related responsibilities. Position Duties: Faculty and Graduate Student Development and Consultation, 50%; Design, Development, and Delivery of Teaching Workshops, 25%; Resource Design and Development 15%; Professional Development and Training, 10%. This position will report to the Team Lead \xe2\x80\x93 Programs. Day-to-day activities Include (but are not limited to):
  • Consult within the University of Manitoba with faculty on best practices in teaching and learning within post-secondary environments, including the areas of accessibility and inclusion.
  • Provide pedagogical feedback to faculty and graduate students around teaching practices and the design of course/curriculum materials for all modalities, including the areas of accessibility and inclusion.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Centre to develop and implement aspects of accessibility and inclusion into educational programs for faculty and graduate students (e.g., teaching certificate programs for various modalities).
  • Assist faculty in integrating good pedagogical practices into their teaching, courses, and curriculum.
  • Act as point person and manage the work of project team members on designated faculty development projects by organizing content and meetings, coordinating projects, and producing deliverables when required.
  • Initiate and maintain relationships with faculty to create a network for teaching support and development.
  • Collaborate with other teams within the Centre to complete faculty development projects including Development and Consultation, Research, Evaluation, and Innovation, Flexible Learning, Learning Technologies and Solutions, and Operations.
  • Participate in the design, development and delivery of various faculty and graduate student development initiatives within the Centre and external University of Manitoba Community.
  • Provide teaching mentorship for faculty within various teaching certificate programs.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback to faculty on teaching practices in post-secondary education.
  • Deliver face-to-face, blended, and online professional development sessions for faculty and graduate students on a variety of teaching topics related to post-secondary teaching and curriculum.
  • Design and develop teaching workshops for faculty and graduate students within the University of Manitoba.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Centre to design, develop and deliver multi-day teaching institutes and discipline-specific teaching workshops.
  • Contribute to the design, organization, planning and coordination of educational events within the Centre and external University of Manitoba Community.
  • Independently manage internal and external workload and work collaboratively with other members of the Centre, and external units to ensure that all work is completed professionally and accurately.
  • Develop evidence-based, pedagogically sound resources (both print and electronic) for teaching and curriculum development within post-secondary education. Resources to be used for web development, faculty development, presentations, program development, handbooks, etc.
  • Contribute to the development of the Centre\xe2\x80\x99s educational programming by writing, editing, and updating evidence-based documents for teaching and curriculum development within post-secondary education.
  • Research evidence-based practices through literature reviews to develop resources and handbooks for faculty and graduate students.
  • Adapt teaching resources for various audiences
  • Remain current with established and emerging trends in all aspects of teaching and learning.
  • Possible travel for training and professional development opportunities
Qualifications: Formal Education and Training
  • A Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Education (M.Ed.) orrelated field.
  • A Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or 2 years program/course development training/experience within post-secondary educational environments.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience, working in multiple teaching and learning modalities; face-to-face, blended and remote/online teaching.
  • Experience in accessibility / disability studies will be considered an asset.
Qualifications: Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current theories and practices in accessibility and inclusion, particularly with respect to higher education teaching and learning is preferred.
  • Demonstrated teaching ability.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver workshops related to teaching and learning.
  • Previous experience in developing course or program materials and resources are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide pedagogical feedback on teaching and course design within post-secondary environments.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated teaching and public speaking skills are required.
  • Demonstrated experience working with learning technologies.
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills required in working with students, staff, faculty, and the general public.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team is essential and should be demonstrated.
  • Demonstrated ability to receive feedback.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and complete work accurately under tight timelines.
  • Ability to make sound independent judgments and utilize problem-solving abilities with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Knowledge of University regulations and policies is preferred.
