Position Summary
The Educational Assistant works under the supervision of the classroom teacher in the Individual Support Program (ISP) to assist the teacher in programming for students with special needs through the implementation of Individual Program Plan (IPP) goals. The ISP program serves students with severe special needs from Grade 1 through Grade 6.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
supporting students in the Individual Support Program
assisting students who have physical, sensory or behavioural challenges, and/or medical conditions requiring special accommodations
providing one-on-one and small group support
assisting with planning and adapting curriculum to meet the individual needs of students under the guidance of the teacher
assisting students with personal care including g-tube feeding and toileting
lifting, transferring and positioning
Education/Qualifications
a two year post secondary program in a related field
a minimum of two years of related experience preferably in an educational environment
experience working with and providing interventions to students who have developmental delays and learning disabilities
experience supporting students who have emotional and/or behavioural challenges and physical/medical disabilities
proven ability to implement effective de-escalation strategies
excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
proven success in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships

Rate of Pay
$27.30 - $31.79 per hour
