Work with First Nations communities to lead and evolve innovative education-to-career programming, including the redevelopment and delivery of P-TECH 2.0--a reimagined version of the Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) model. This role champions a collaborative, public-private approach that creates streamlined transitions from high school to post-secondary education and into employment. P-TECH 2.0 offers three flexible pathway options:
Micro-credentialing programs based on direct industry needs
One-year Nova Scotia Community College certificates
Two-year NSCC diplomas
This role also contributes to the broader mission of the Mi'kmaw Economic Benefits Office (MEBO) by supporting the integration and delivery of employment and training programs across the organization.
Summary of Accountability:
The Manager will lead the redevelopment, implementation, and expansion of the P-TECH initiative as P-TECH 2.0, ensuring it reflects current industry demands and educational opportunities. The role includes program development, community and industry engagement, student and staff recruitment, and cross-program integration. This individual serves as a connector across MEBO's education and employment programs, working to ensure Indigenous learners have clear, supported pathways to long-term success.
Responsibilities:
P-TECH 2.0 Development & Management:
Lead the redesign and relaunch of P-TECH as P-TECH 2.0. Coordinate with education institutions, industry partners, and Indigenous communities to ensure that the three options to pathway structure is aligned with current and future workforce needs. Promote the program in schools and communities, recruit students and teaching staff, and serve as the primary liaison for all P-TECH-related partnerships.
Employment Program Administration:
Assist in the coordination and delivery of MEBO's employment-focused programs, ensuring participants receive support as they transition into the workforce. This includes overseeing participant intake and conducting needs assessments to help develop individualized action plans. The role involves coordinating job matching, facilitating mentorship and internship opportunities with industry professionals, elders, and peer mentors, and supporting job readiness activities such as resume building, interview preparation, and career planning. The manager will track participant progress through internal systems, prepare reports for funders and partners. Additionally, the role includes identifying areas for program improvement and helping to collect success stories and outcome data to support reporting and promotion.
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships:
Build and maintain strong relationships with public schools, NSCC, funders, industry partners, and community organizations. Coordinate and support advisory committees, working groups, and external collaborations.
Funding Proposals:
Research and prepare proposals/grants for submission to secure funding for P-TECH 2.0 and related programs. Ensure funding alignments with MEBO's mission and stakeholder expectations.
Financial Reporting:
Work with the MEBO Finance Manager to monitor program budgets, track expenses, and provide accurate financial reports for funders and internal use.
Marketing & Promotion:
Promote P-TECH 2.0 and related education/employment programs through presentations, community outreach, digital content, and events. Collaborate with MEBO's marketing team to engage youth, families, schools, and industry.
External Presentations:
Represent MEBO in presenting the P-TECH 2.0 model and other education/employment initiatives to government agencies, funders, community leadership, and partners.
Education and Training:
Preferred: Diploma or degree in Education, Business Administration, or a related field
Equiivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
Project Management certification or equivalent experience preferred
Background in program development and post-secondary partnerships
Knowledge of NSCC and Nova Scotia's education and workforce systems
Experience Required:
5+ years in program development, education, or workforce partnerships
Experience with Indigenous communities, especially in Unama'ki
Familiarity with K-12 and post-secondary structures
Experience with government or not-for-profit funding structures
Proposal and Grant writing
Skills and Competencies:
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
Confident public speaker with stakeholder engagement experience
Knowledge of the ICT and skilled trades sectors considered an asset
Understanding of the Mi'kmaq language is considered a strong asset
Supervision:
Reports to the MEBO Executive Director. May supervise external contractors and coordinate cross-functional teams and external partnerships.
Conditions of Employment:
Must be available for regional and occasional national travel. Requires valid driver's license and passport. Flexible hours may be necessary to support program activities.
Working Conditions:
Based at MEBO's Membertou office with regular travel to schools, partner sites, and community locations.
