Position Summary:
Yaq?it ?aknuq?i'it First Nation (Tobacco Plains Band) is a rural First Nation located near Grasmere, BC, in one of the most beautiful and natural parts of British Columbia. Yaq?it ?aknuq?i'it First Nation (YQT) is seeking an Education & Workforce Development Coordinator to lead and deliver community based programs that foster learning, wellbeing, and skill development for our members. This position plays a key role in supporting students, families, and community members through initiatives related to K-12 and post-secondary education, income assistance, and workforce development.

Responsibilities:
Assist in the coordination and delivery of programs across Education, Income Assistance, Workforce Development, and Community Services.
Coordinate and organize after school programs, tutoring, youth engagement activities, and other community based educational supports.
Plan and support community events, workshops, and cultural gatherings in collaboration with staff and community members.
Provide direct support to students and families with applications, attendance monitoring, transportation, tutoring coordination, and navigating school systems.
Support K-12 and Post-Secondary funding processes, including application intake, tracking, and reporting requirements.
Conduct intake and assessments for Income Assistance clients, ensuring compliance with ISC policies and referring to external resources where needed.
Assist with planning, promotion, recruitment, and coordination of Workforce Development and Skills & Training initiatives.
Maintain accurate client files, records, and program data in required systems.
Provide logistical support for community services, including emergency planning, funeral support, and distribution programs.
Assist with proposal writing, grant reporting, and gathering data for funding submissions.
Support community engagement by gathering feedback, attending events, and helping integrate cultural priorities into programs.
Work collaboratively with the Manager and team to ensure smooth day-to-day program operations.
Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
Certificate or Diploma in Education, Social Work, First Nation Studies or related field.
Minimum 2 years' of experience in an education, community service, community development, or related field.
Experience working with Indigenous communities or First Nations organizations considered an asset.
Knowledge of Yaq?it ?aknuq?i'it culture and language is a strong asset.
Criminal Record Check & Vulnerable Sector Check (to be completed upon hiring).
Valid Class 4 BC Driver's License (or willing to obtain) with clean drivers abstract.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong organizational and time management skills, with ability to coordinate multiple programs and events.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and community members.
Knowledge of education systems, social supports, and Indigenous service delivery.
Strong record keeping and administrative abilities.
Commitment to culturally safe and community-centered service delivery.
Basic knowledge of First Nation governance structures and community engagement practices.
Sensitivity and understanding of the unique cultural environment of a First Nation organization.
Hourly Rate:
$23.04 - $35.00 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications
