Full-Time, Temporary (Six-Month Term, with Possibility of Extension)
PURPOSE
Reporting to the Manager of Education & Training, the Education & Training Support Coordinator supports the priorities, strategies, and initiatives of the Gwich'in Tribal Council (GTC) by providing wellness and administrative support to post-secondary students, high school students, and adult learners. This role facilitates the Gwich'in Student Wellness Program, coordinates outreach and resource development, and supports education and training program administration. The Coordinator also collaborates with institutions and communities to promote culturally relevant wellness supports and ensures effective case management and data tracking.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilitate the Gwich'in Student Wellness Program, supporting individuals and groups of Gwich'in students pursuing post-secondary education or training.
Provide culturally relevant information on wellness supports, accommodations, and resources through presentations, workshops, and materials.
Support individuals and families in understanding and valuing their unique wellness needs during educational programming.
Collaborate with post-secondary institutions across the NWT and Canada to identify and promote student wellness resources.
Coordinate onsite visits to post-secondary institutions and develop resource networks.
Participate in career fairs, school orientations, and information sessions.
Compile and organize Participant applications, verify eligibility, and communicate available training subsidies.
Maintain confidential records and ensure secure information systems.
Use a team-based approach to connect clients with appropriate resources, especially during times of crisis or trauma.
Act as a referral agent and advocate for culturally sensitive services.
Engage in community partnerships to promote student wellness.
Research and recommend promising practices aligned with Indigenous learning and Gwich'in values.
Support development and implementation of student wellness tools and resources.
Maintain comprehensive filing systems and enter client data into the database.
Willingness to travel, including by small planes and ice roads.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Diploma in Business Administration, Career Development, Education, Social Science, or a related field.
Experience in career development or related areas is an asset. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneNote), email, database applications, and internet use.
Strong awareness of cultural diversity and Northern Indigenous values and practices.
Understanding of Indigenous Land Claims and Governance structures, including the Gwich'in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement.
