About Our Opportunity

As the Education Coordinator, you will have the opportunity to create and deliver engaging educational programs to our visitors and stakeholders, with the goal of increasing the awareness and understanding of our provincial wildlife and natural resources.

Primary Accountabilities

You will oversee the wildlife, wetland, natural resources and environmental education and special interest programs delivered at the Provincial Wildlife Park and off-site to students, adults, and pre-school aged groups.

You will be responsible for creating, organizing and conducting programs as well as developing lesson plans and supporting educational materials which meet curriculum outcomes for students of all ages. To ensure the curriculum-based programs meet the desired learning outcomes, you will liaise with teachers and Department of Education staff and will regularly evaluate the programs for content, relevance, and accuracy.

You will have the opportunity to promote and deliver educational programs through a variety of methods including group presentations, hands-on learning, educational tours and through regular, formalized programs or day camps.

This position reports to the Supervisor of Visitor Experience.

Qualifications and Experience

This position requires you to have a Bachelor\'s degree in a related field with one (1) year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. You must have experience facilitating, developing and designing instructional, educational and promotional materials.

You have exceptional communication (verbal and written) skills and the ability to clearly communicate and effectively interact with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. You also have strong and interpersonal and presentation/public speaking skills which enable you to deliver engaging programs to diverse audiences while providing meaningful and relevant instruction suited to the group\'s requirements.

You have a strong sense of initiative to seek out new and creative program delivery ideas. You possess a high level of organizational, time management and decision-making skills. Good judgement, effective decision-making skills and the ability to adapt to change is essential. Experience with general office software is required, such as, Microsoft Word, Power Point, Outlook and Internet.

The following are considered assets:

  • Valid first aid certification
  • Experience working with people with special needs and/or minority groups.

Working Conditions

Must be able to adapt to flexible working situations and requirements on a daily basis, including occasionally working weekends, evenings, and overnight stays within the Province.

Additional Information

A valid Nova Scotia Driver\'s Licence (class 5 minimum) or equivalent is required.
A valid Vulnerable Sector/Criminal Background/Child abuse register checks are required.

Pay Grade: PR 06 - PR 10

Salary Range: $1,915.37 - $2,746.69 Bi-Weekly
