This department is a perfect fit for those that want to be part of the future of public education in the province.About Our OpportunityThe Provincial Mathematics Lead\'s primary responsibility will be leading the implementation of the provincial mathematics strategy. This will result in increased student mathematics achievement in the province.The provincial lead will lead the development and implementation of curricula and research-proven instructional strategies as part of the successful implementation of the mathematics strategy. They will also lead the development and implementation of professional development and assessment as part of the strategy. They will work collaboratively with the provincial mathematics team, EECD colleagues, and external education partners to ensure successful implementation and increased student achievement.The Provincial Mathematics Lead reports directly to the Director of Curriculum Development.We are looking for a proven educational leader who wants to be part of an innovative team and who will make a difference!Primary Accountabilities

  • Administer and implement the provincial mathematics strategy including various aspects of Public-School Programs, P- 12 redevelopment (i.e., mathematics curriculum for each grade level and development/procurement of learning resources, etc.), with the exception of French programs (French first-language and French second-language programs and curricula).
  • The Provincial Math Lead is required to implement Public School Programs, P-12 through developing, directing, and conducting professional learning and implementation sessions primarily with teams and partners.
  • Perform administrative duties and required procedures e.g. research, correspondence, reports.
  • Provide consultative services, networking, and professional development.
Qualifications and ExperienceTo be successful in this role, you have a Bachelors\' Degree with a Major in Mathematics or a related discipline, and a Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent Teacher Certification plus 8 years experience of successful math teaching and a Master of Education degree.You will also have extensive knowledge of Nova Scotia Mathematics curriculum and its implementation in Nova Scotia, and the skill and ability in the use of technology to support mathematics learning, including Moodle and GSuite. You must have strong decision-making and leadership skills as well as outstanding verbal, written, communication and presentation skills. You must have excellent organizational skills, be detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task. You must be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with groups and individuals with diverse or competing interests or perspectives. You will have highly developed research skills to be able to conduct in-depth literature scans and original research related to the design of modern mathematics curricula.Experience in an education leadership role in regional and/or national math communities, would be an asset.Additional assets include:
  • Skill and ability in the use of technology to support mathematics learning
  • Credentials in project management
  • Regional and/or national mathematics community affiliation is beneficial
  • Bilingualism (fluency in French and English)
