Job Description

The role of the Education Coordinator for George Gordon First Nation (GGFN) is composed of multiple levels of responsibilities when it comes to the care of learning and education for the youth of the community. Working with the community, the schools and education, social welfare, and wellness to take the necessary steps to provide a safe and caring, learning environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Education Coordinator supports all aspects of educational programming and services for the GGFN community from early childhood to high school, ensuring that education is culturally relevant and high quality. The Education Coordinator is responsible for program administration and coordination, community engagement, student support, acting as a liaison while developing partnerships, creating and maintaining agreements, and reporting on all activities.

Develop educational policies and practices, including review, development and implementation. Manage and facilitate meetings at various levels (i.e. schools, community, provincial, and federal). Communicate with, which may include presentations, and build relationships with the Horizon School Division and related government agencies. Liaison with and collaborate with elementary and secondary schools of Punnichy Elementary Community School, Punnichy Community High School, and George Gordon Education Centre to coordinate initiatives. Promote positive partnerships with GGFN departments, programs, and community groups in pursuit of positive educational outcomes for students . Support students and families in navigating education systems, including facilitating tutoring, referrals, advocacy, etc. Oversee school transportation (i.e. busses, contracts, and student safety). Proposal writing, maintain records, and produce reports required for education funding agencies, with the exception of the post-secondary program. Administer and monitor education funding agreements with Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), school boards, and other partners, such as monitoring tuition payments. Evaluate programs and recommend improvements. Perform other related duties, including supervision of any other employees.

Skills and Qualifications:

Minimum of two (2) years' experience with First Nation or provincial education or in a school setting. Post-secondary diploma or degree in Education or related field. Extensive program management, budgetary, and reporting experience. A comprehensive understanding of First Nation issues and education. Experience working with school boards, ISC, and educational authorities is an asset. Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Proven self-motivator and results driven. Flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances. Creativity and innovation skills. Ability to co-ordinate multiple tasks in a busy work environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Possess a valid Saskatchewan class five (5) driver's license. Salary will be based on experience, training, and education. This permanent full time role reports directly to the Director of Operations.
