To work under the direct instruction of a teacher/senior staff, qualified professionals, usually in the classroom with the teacher, to support child's access to learning and development. To provide general support to the students and assist in the management of the classroom environment. Work might occasionally, but not regularly, take place outside of the main teaching area. This position will provide educational support in a variety of subjects, basic supervision, and care for the child in accordance with current learning and development practices.
Education Assistant Worker Responsibilities:
Supervise students throughout the school day within a variety of school environments, activities, and programs.
Assist in managing behavior of students under direct supervision, crisis intervention, and possible student restraint.
Confer with the teacher on a regular basis in efforts to assist in the overall evaluations of student's progress and implementing IEP goals and objectives.
Monitor behavior of child during the classroom activities, and produce reports on individual participation, learning, behavior, and performance.
Maintain appropriate documentations, records, and reports of students educational annual and bi-annual performance review.
Assist in the planning and implementing of activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the children in the program.
Be aware of and follow established policies and procedures.
Be familiar with emergency procedures.
Educational Assistant Worker Requirements:
Educational Assistant Diploma or related experience
Childcare First Aid Certificate Required.
Record of immunizations.
Familiarity with Child Development theories and practices.
Ability to deal with the social/emotional, medical needs and mental health challenges of working with groups of children who are often active and demanding
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Physically able to meet all physical demands.
Ability to work as a team member.
Must provide a criminal record (CPIC) check and a Child Welfare Information (CWIS) check, as required.
The ability to speak Cree is an asset.
Knowledge of First Nations culture and traditions is an asset.
Oath of Confidentiality must be signed prior to commencing employment.
