What is the Opportunity?

Reporting to the Manager, Publishing, the Editor edits and oversees the editorial workflow for all published books, academic materials, and learning and assessment initiatives serving The RCM Certificate Program.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Editorial Services

  • Manage the editorial process for such initiatives as:
  • Written (theory) examinations
  • Examiner and student materials for practical examinations
  • Syllabi for practical and theory subjects
  • Publications supporting The RCM Certificate Program
  • Select Digital Learning products
  • Review and evaluate manuscripts for content completeness, requirements fulfillment, and to assess type and degree of edit required.
  • Work with RCM Certificate Program team members to establish editorial timeline based on project milestones.
  • Support authors, composers, subject matter experts, and/or contract editors during the editorial process.
  • Edit content for accuracy, clarity, and correctness.
  • Apply house style to ensure consistency and control quality for each project.
  • Review and update the style documents as needed.
  • Prepare manuscripts for production and ensure their timely delivery.
  • Review and mark up proofs for correction.
  • Manage errata and mark up publication pages for reprint.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Apply editorial knowledge to resolve publication queries.
  • Review the content and edit copy for promotional materials and book covers as requested.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • University degree in Music with a minimum of 2 years of progressive related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with editorial and publishing processes.
  • High degree of music literacy and knowledge is required.
  • Familiarity with The RCM Certificate Program.
  • Proficiency at the piano keyboard, with an ability to sight read.
  • Exceptional written and communication skills with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong editorial skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong drive for accuracy and flawless execution with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects simultaneously from start to finish.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Sharepoint, and Teams.
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat is an asset.
  • Experience with music notation programs such as Finale or Dorico is an asset.
