Senior Geochemist

AGAT Laboratories is a diversified service provider with over 40 years as a leader in supporting Canadian and International projects. As a growing and rapidly evolving partner in the mining industry, AGAT Laboratories is looking to enhance our strong technical team with an experienced Geochemist. Over 100,000 square feet of newly developed specialty mining chemistry, acid rock drainage and preparatory laboratories have been added in Calgary, Alberta to complement existing large scale operations in Ontario, Quebec, Yukon and British Columbia. Not only does AGAT Laboratories provide exceptional laboratory service, but we are also focused on Research and Development, method advancements, automation and advanced technical support for explorers and operators. Never have we faced a time where energy and metals have been so critical to our advancement both technologically and environmentally.

AGAT is currently developing a Global Center of Excellence to take the lead in understanding how we explore, evaluate and extract critical, precious and industrial minerals. With this, we are keenly understanding of the necessity to integrate mining, energy, advanced core and environmental projects to ensure we maintain the highest standards of data integrity, environmental awareness and operational excellence.

As a Senior Geochemist, you will join a national team of experienced, Geologists, Chemists and Engineers with diverse academic and industry expertise; focused on advancing science with our industry partners.

Responsibilities

Utilizing current experience, your role will include:

  • Auditing current procedures and policies to ensure they meet the needs of the ever evolving minerals market
  • Developing scientific protocols and best practices which will allow AGAT to remain at the forefront of providing exceptional technical services and providing operational advantages for our clients
  • Actively involved in national and international projects tied to our Energy, Mining, Environmental, Food, Ecotox and Forensics divisions
  • Participating in a wide variety of unique and innovative projects
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education (BSc) in Science required; PhD preferred
  • Minimum 10 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in industry
  • Strong technical background in mining geochemistry with specific focus on laboratory procedure optimization
  • Strong understanding of Fire Assay, ICP, XRD, XRF, High Resolution Imaging
  • Ability to guide operations on proper handling, preparatory and analytical techniques
  • Strong background in quality control, quality assurance and data evaluation
  • Ability to conduct research and develop or optimize analytical methods
  • Willingness to participate and present at technical conferences
  • Ability and openness to collaborate with internal and external scientists
  • Experience with research and development and associated grant and tax incentives
  • Strong technical proficiency with standard office computer technology
  • Strong communication skills in English; bilingual French an asset
Work Environment: This position requires a person to sit for prolonged periods of time in an office setting. Manual dexterity is required to perform this position.
